Who went and put another fit just-legal music-playing boy in the contestant seat?
It must be Freddie 'Odd' Milverton's lucky day.

R1 final vowel for A would've given CAPOEIRA

R3- ANDROGEN?

SCANTIER for an anagram of CANISTER in Rd 11

And well done to Shane - I really enjoyed his run. Seems a nice bloke too.

Jeff said Shane was the "fourth seed". Whether he meant the fourth contestant to enter the finals or the number four seed I'm not sure, but Shane's the number three seed AFAIK.

has anyone got any closer to the 2nd numbers game?
10 10 8 8 2 3, target 985.

It's killing me, it'd be nice if one of you guys with your numbers tools could let me know if 982 is the closest?
I see 197 x 5 = 985 but that hasn't been much help.

Well done Shane, very modest octochamp.

Great to see the legend Tim Vine in dictionary corner :D Gonna be a fun week.

I got 984 via (10x(10+2)+3)x8...not sure if 985 is possible.

I had that and also FUSARIA as a beater in another round, don't know which one. The one where Rachel had SAFARI.

According to crosswordtools' number solver, 984 is the closest it is possible to get for those numbers.

Same. Top guy.
I also noticed this, he did the same to Cate Henderson by telling her she was the No.3 seed when infact she is number 2.
I don it like it how Jeff said something along the lines of " You will be returning as the number 4 seed" as if there wont be any more octochamps with a higher points total than him.

Thought I was doing alright today but I come here and it turns out I missed CAPRIOLE, FUSARIA/RUFIYAA and ANDROGEN :x Oh and I didn't get MOONSET and only got 989 in the 2nd numbers which although the max is 7 points, was bettered by the challenger :x Oh and my PUNIEST was out of time :x Still I beat Shane 107-76 :)

I had 984 a different way again:
(10+2)x8x10+8x3.

Was pleased with the DC beater CAPRIOLE and SAFARI (and then RR got it) but I missed FUSARIA, well done Chris.

196 I went (50x100-75)/25 - 1 but I doubt I'd have done it in the studio as I would have looked cocky.

OUBOETS a nice equaller in the MOONSET round too. I enjoyed Shane's run too. I wonder if Jeff (or Jeff's info) had Neil's extra 10 points from his extra conundrum down. If that was the case then Shane would be the number 4 seed.

Ramsay was not only better looking than George but had (gasp) a personality too. He missed some easy words but seemed pretty good at the numbers and against an opponent on less good form than Shane he might have won a game or two.

That was my best effort as well. And no, 985 is not possible.

I checked it via http://crosswordtools.com/numbers-game and you only can get 1-off. That's your 984!
