Classic posts

To reward people who make good posts (and to encourage people to make further good posts) I've decided to start a classic posts thread. Link to posts that made you laugh, cry or think so that others may join you in your outpouring of emotion. Users who find their posts posted here will earn both glory, and the right to let their hair down and make nothing but rubbish posts the following week.
To link a post, click the image of a folded piece of paper next to the word "posted" at the top of your recommended post (circled red in the image below). Then copy the URL from the address bar and paste it into this thread.

I'll get the ball rolling:
http://www.c4countdown.co.uk/viewtopic. ... =12#p36505 - Rosemary Robert's helpful breakdown of the human condition.
http://www.c4countdown.co.uk/viewtopic. ... 559#p36559 - A classic post by perhaps the best poster on this forum.
EDIT: Also, I'm wondering if this thread might generate too many recommendations, but we'll see how it goes this week.

Had this thread existed all those months ago, I would have proposed
this, and
this, with one post in advance for context.

Due to my crippling laziness this thread is now a 'classic posts' thread. Keep on making those classic posts, but don't expect any Virtual Mars Bars from me (besides, reduced Virtual Mars Bar production will increase their value, so maybe this is for the best).

Michael, I'll give you a little preview of it.

Kirk, I've learned that when you're not naturally funny (although I do find you extremely entertaining, tbf) most of your best jokes will end up being completely unintentional. Just sit back and pretend you meant it.

I thought wit was supposed to be funny. I didn't find it funny - maybe I find it harder to laugh at things which is why people find some of my stuff funny and I have no idea it is.

Wit is the speedy connection of different ideas to generate amusement, though I can see why the notion of Pythagoras coming back from the dead to play in a series final of Countdown might only be perceived as a sobre and serious observation for some.

To somebody with a working prototype time machine it might come across as a serious suggestion, somebody without one might consider it wistful and slightly sad. But I don't see how it could ever be funny.

I was just saying to Charlie that that was why I didn't facepalm it. The last bit about hating the law and old people was just too silly.

Excellent one from Phil Reynolds which, though not strictly on topic, gave me (and I'm surely the relevant forumite when he reads it) a good chuckle.

It didn't take me 'ages' but yeah, when Phil made that joke I read it as 'dill' too the first time - although filling in a dirty verb was fucking easy for me, just think of it as an abbreviation

Interesting - I've always pronounced dilemma with a long i on the first syllable, but on looking it up I see that either way is valid. Seems a bit odd; I can't think of another word having a di-, bi- or tri- prefix (meaning 2 or 3) that has the same dual pronunciation.

That'll be dil(annoyed grunt), then.

Bin-oculars / Biy-noculars ? They both sound fairly valid to me, I think I've probably used both myself too.

Yeah OK. Actually, I think I always pronounce this one with a short i, although again both are apparently valid.
