Julian Fell holds out his arms in excitement as he closes his octochamp run with the then highest ever Countdown score of 138, only for it to be beaten with his own 146 during the finals of the series.

Julian's octochamp total of 924 set a new record which has endured for over 10 series. Will it ever be beaten?

Looking at your octochamp run, yours were pretty easy as well.

And good to see these games again, one of the few sets of games I can actually remember from the RW era. Nice one Simon, and Charlie.

Great games these from a player who took the standard of the game to the next level. Scoring 800 in an Octochamp run is one thing, over about 840 is another, but over 900 is out of this world! I thought this 924 would never be beaten but having seen Kirk with his games its under threat. Don't know whether he'll beat it, but I'm sure at the time of recording he'd have known about the record and whether that pressured him or not I don't know.

At the time of this broadcast, it was 3 weeks before the C of C's were due to be recorded and if Julian won his series, I could have potentially played him in the C of C semi's which at the time was a relishing prospect and my aim at the time was to get to that stage. At my C of C's, Julian didn't come until the second day and all of us on the first were talking about him like he was leagues above us.

Really pleased these games are up, for those who haven't met him, Julian was a really nice guy who indeed was very personable and modest.
