John: HANDLERS (8)
Wayne: HANDLERS (8)
DC: REHANDLES (18)
Score: 15–15 (max 26)
More of the same yet again............Over in DC they get to steal the show with their 9 Rehandles.......as does our recap writer..........now this is somebody who knows all about stealing the show that is what the late Freddie Mercury did way back in 1985 with his band Queen at Live Aid

Round 3: 25, 50, 75, 100, 8, 4. Target: 377.
C1: 377. (8 + 4) × 25 + 75 + 100 ÷ 50 (10)

Score: 89–84 (max 108)
Is there another twist to this contest with Susie disallowing Unshare.........Wayne is daft as a brush with his 5 that puts him within striking distance of our champion John with everything left to play for...........but there were a fair few sixes to be had........sadly you don't get any extra points for spotting most of those
Round 12: I O A U E N R T V
John: RAINOUT (7)
Wayne: VIRTUE (6)
DC: ROUTINE (7)
OT: TAURINE (7) UNRIVET (7) URINATE (7) VAUNTER (7) VENATOR (7) VENTURI (7)
Score: 96–84 (max 115)
Our champion John hits straight back with the old Countdown favourite Rainout.........with 12 points being the difference is there still enough for Wayne to make one final push ?

John: PAPERING (8)
Wayne: paperings
OT: GENIPAPS (8) SNAPPIER (8) SPEARING (8)
Score: 104–84 (max 123)
Sadly not as Susie disallows his 9 Paperings.........but there is 20 points between the two of them.......John will need to miss the numbers game and Wayne to solve it to force a tie and a potential crucial conundrum........so let's see how the next two rounds play out........however there are a few eights to be had but you don't get any extra points for spotting most of them........so let's not fight and play nicely

Round 14: 3, 7, 1, 5, 10, 2. Target: 435.
C1: 435. ((2 + 7) × 10 − 3) × 5 (10)
C2: 435. ((2 + 7) × 10 − 3) × 5 (10)
Score: 114–94 (max 133)
Both contestants solve this straightforward numbers game and for Wayne it is game over............John is the first octo-champ of Series 92

Round 15: P R E P A I D I N
C1 buzzes on 29 seconds to say PARPINIDE which is incorrect.
C2 buzzes on 30 seconds to say APPRENDIO which is incorrect.
The answer was DRAINPIPE.
Final Score: 114–94 (max 143)
Both contestants buzz in and give a incorrect answer so the conundrum goes unsolved......What a fantastic contest this has been firstly congratulations to John Payne he is now the first Octo-champ of series 92, his octo-total of 834 averages out at 104.25 points a game this puts him as the provisional top seed for now. John will almost certainly be returning for the Series 92 finals in December. Secondly take nothing away from Wayne he performed admirably 94 points is a respectable score and in most games that would of bagged you a teapot.......You can join me for the next recap as we welcome two brand new contestants to the Countdown studios in the meantime it is bye for now !
