Nigel: GROUPS (6)
Rob: SPOIL (5)
DC: GROUPS (6)
OT: FLOURS (6) GIRLFS (6) GUIROS (6) PILOUS (6) POILUS (6)
Score: 6–0 (max 6)

A great start from our champion Nigel with his six Groups..............there were plenty more of them to be had .......no extra points for spotting most of these ...........nothing worth arguing over !

Round 2: R P D O A I S M A

Nigel: RADIOS (6)
Rob: DIASPORA (8)
DC: DIASPORA (8)
OT: DIORAMAS (8) PAROSMIA (8) ROADMAPS (8)
Score: 6–8 (max 14)

What a badass spot from our challenger Rob with his eight Diaspora which also happens to be spot of DC..........there were quite a few eights to be had Dioramas was the spot from our recap writer...........so nothing worth debating over

Image

Image

Round 3: 50, 7, 2, 5, 1, 4. Target: 804.

C1: 804. (7 + 1) × 2 × 50 + 4 (10)
C2: 804. (50 × 4 + 1) × (7 − 5 + 2) (10)
Score: 16–18 (max 24)

A piece of piss numbers solve to kick off the days proceedings..............it's not exactly rocket science when it comes to this piss easy solve that bags our champion and challenger 10 points each !

Teatime teaser: UNBATTED -> DEBUTANT

Round 4: S N T O A E D T I

Nigel: SEDATION (8)
Rob: DETAINS (7)
DC: STATIONED (18) ANTIDOTES (18)
Score: 24–18 (max 42)

Another good round from our champion Nigel with his eight Sedation

Image

Over in DC they are on fire as is our recap writer with the two nine letter words available Stationed and Antidotes

Image

Eadie is terrified cos Millsy is on fire !!
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na, na-na-na, na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na, na-na-na, na-na
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na, na-na-na, na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na, na-na-na, na-na

Round 5: W P R P E A O A T

Nigel: TAPPER (6)
Rob: TOPPER (6)
DC: PARAPET (7)
Score: 30–24 (max 49)

Sixes all round.....................over in DC they get to show off with their 7 Parapet

Image

Image

Round 6: 75, 4, 2, 5, 1, 8. Target: 431.

C1: 436. (4 + 2) × 75 − 5 − 1 − 8 (7)
C2: 436. (4 + 2) × 75 − 5 − 1 − 8 (7)
RR: 431. 75 × 5 + (4 + 2 + 1) × 8 (10)
Score: 37–31 (max 59)

A very useful 7 points for champion and challenger............but Ms Riley gets to shine and shows us how it is done by producing a perfect 10.............by using the omelette method ! I used a different method to get 431

Image

Image

75-1=74
74*6=444
8+5=13
444-13=431

Otherwise knwon as the omelette method

Round 7: B L T E A E O S R

Nigel: BLEATERS (8)
Rob: BLOATERS (8)
DC: STORABLE (8) SORTABLE (8)
OT: BLEAREST (8) EARLOBES (8) OLEASTER (8) RETABLES (8) RETABLOS (8)
Score: 45–39 (max 67)

Eights all round............need I say more !

Image

Round 8: H S D A E I S G K

Nigel: SHAKES (6)
Rob: GEISHAS (7)
DC: GEISHAS (7)
Score: 45–46 (max 74)

Another fine round from our challenger Rob with his 7 Geishas that puts him 1 point in front of our champion Nigel

Image

Round 9: 5, 8, 8, 9, 2, 7. Target: 272.

C1: 272. Mistake in working.
C2: 272. 5 × 8 × 7 − 8 (10)
Score: 45–56 (max 84)

Nice and straightforward this numbers solve this bags our challenger an 11 point lead and with everything still to play for in this tight contest

Image

Teatime teaser: IPLAYCAT -> ATYPICAL

Round 10: N M V U E I R T E

Nigel: METRE (5)
Rob: minuter
DC: VIREMENT (8)
OT: MUTINEER (8)
Score: 50–56 (max 92)

But Nigel hits straight back and takes full advantage of the situation and gets himself back in the contest with his 5 Metre as Bob has his 7 disallowed by Susie............

Image

Over in DC they get to shine with their 8 Virement..........but our recap writer gets to shine with the other eight Mutineer !

Image

Round 11: M S O E D N I W O

Nigel: WINSOME (7)
Rob: moonside
DC: DOMINOES (8) WOODSMEN (8)
OT: MONODIES (8)
Score: 57–56 (max 100)

Another fine round from Mr Hutchinson with his 7 Winsome but the lead switches hands yet again as Rob has his disallowed by Susie...........but if you look close enough there were a few eights..........Dominoes and Woodsmen were the two spotted by DC and our very own Tracey Mills aka Crazy Cat Lady............. our very own recap writer when she can be bothered !!

Image

Round 12: R M L U E A R N Q

Nigel: NUMERAL (7)
Rob: NUMERAL (7)
DC: NUMERAL (7) MARQUE (6)
OT: QUARREL (7)
Score: 64–63 (max 107)

Sevens all round.........can we jump ahead to the next round...........hardly worth a catfight is it ?

Image

Image

Round 13: O I T R S G U T A

Nigel: SUITOR (6)
Rob: GUITARS (7)
DC: TOURIST (7)
OT: AGOUTIS (7) GIAOURS (7) RAGOUTS (7) SAUTOIR (7) TAUTOGS (7) TURISTA (7)
Score: 64–70 (max 114)

Another superb round from our challenger Rob with his Guitars that gives him a brief but narrow lead..................does he have enough gas in the tank to bag himself a teapot ? Let's see how the next round plays out !

Image

Round 14: 75, 50, 1, 8, 7, 8. Target: 344.

C1: 344. (50 − 1) × 7 + 8 ÷ 8 (10)
C2: 343.
Score: 74–70 (max 124)

Our champion Nigel bags himself maximum points in this round sadly Rob blanks it............but we are in still crucial conundrum territory..........the burning question is who will buzz first ? I found a different method of getting there by using the 7 cubed method

Image

Image

50-1=49
49*7=343
8/8=1
343+1=344

Round 15: F I N E R T R E E

No one buzzes. The answer was INTERFERE.
Final Score: 74–70 (max 134)

Neither contestant solves the conundrum it is left to Rachel Riley and our recap writer to solve it..........firstly congratulations to Nigel he marches on and bags his second win, secondly take nothing away from Rob he gave as good as he got............it wasn't his day but worthy of a teapot.......You can join me again to see if Nigel bags his third win.............in the meantime it is bye for now !
