Round 1: R W N E O U C P S

Marrianne: POUNCERS (8)
Phil: POUNCERS (8)
DC: RECOUPS (7)
OT: UNPOWERS (8)
Score: 8–8 (max 8)

A great start from our Champion and Challnger with an 8 no less

Round 2: R T S I E A P F I

Marrianne: PASTIER (7)
Phil: PARTIES (7)
DC: APERITIFS (18)
OT: PARTIFIES (18)
Score: 15–15 (max 26)

7s all round............but DC get to shine with their 9 Aperitifs.........you guessed I spotted this one...............there was another 9 with Partifies sadly you don't get any extra points for spotting it

Image

Round 3: 50, 3, 8, 1, 8, 2. Target: 712.

C1: 709. (8 + 3 × 2) × 50 + 8 + 1 (7)
C2: 708.
RR: 712. (((3 + 2) × 8) + 50 − 1) × 8 (10)
Score: 22–15 (max 36)

A decent solve from the Champion that bags her 7 points.........meanwhile if you pay attention to your 8 times just like my solution you could bag yourself 10 points !

50*2=100
8+3=11
100-11=89
89*8=712

Teatime teaser: CRAGJOIN -> JARGONIC

Round 4: M G T E I O R N U

Marrianne: ROUTING (7)
Phil: ROUTINE (7)
DC: ROUTEING (8)
Score: 29–22 (max 44)

7s all round from our Champion and Challenger.......over in DC Susie gets to shine wiith her Routeing..........you guessed it I spotted this one !

Image

Round 5: B V S E O E L N A

Marrianne: LEAVES (6)
Phil: LEAVENS (7)
DC: OVENABLE (8)
OT: NEOSLAVE (8)
Score: 29–29 (max 52)

A good 7 from our Challenger Phil sees this rather tight contest levelled up........Susie and Co get to shine with their 8 Ovenable

Round 6: 75, 50, 5, 9, 6, 2. Target: 402.

C1: 406.
C2: 402. (9 − 6 + 5) × 8 + 2 (10)
Score: 29–39 (max 62)

The deadlock is now broken with our champion Marrianne declaring 4 away.........but our challenger gets it spot on and takes the lead in this rather tight contest...........but I found a less complicated way of getting there

75*6=450
450-50=400
400+2=402

Round 7: G N D E A E N Y G

Marrianne: denny
Phil: NAGGED (6)
DC: ENGAGED (7)
Score: 29–45 (max 69)

A rather risky 5 that Susie disallows............no nagging from Phil as his 6 Nagged..........meanwhile over in DC they are otherwise engaged as their 7

You will need plenty of money to afford a ring like this my hubby needs to get his wallet out............where did I hide that lottery ticket !

Phil: TOASTED (7)
DC: TOADIES (7)
OT: DOATIES (7) IODATES (7) JOISTED (7) OATIEST (7) OSTIATE (7) TOASTIE (7)
Score: 29–52 (max 76)

Another risk that isn't paying for Marrianne but there was a few 7s in this nice selection of letters my spot was Toastie........a very yummy comfort food with a lovely cup of tea

Round 9: 50, 6, 3, 1, 4, 4. Target: 578.

C1: 580. Mistake in working.
C2: 580. (4 + 3 + 1 + 50) × (6 + 4) (7)
RR: 578. (3 × 4) × (50 − 1) − 6 − 4 (10)
Score: 29–59 (max 86)

Teatime teaser: TIPMUSED -> DUMPIEST

Round 10: W N T O E U Q E S

Marrianne: QUEENS (6)
Phil: QUEENS (6)
DC: TOQUES (6)
OT: OUTSEEN (7) QUENTOS (7) QUOTEES (7) SEQUENT (7) TOWNEES (7)
Score: 35–65 (max 93)

6s all round for everybody...........there were a fair few 7s hidden away.......Outseen was my spot

Round 11: T G H O E O R G D

Marrianne: HOOTER (6)
Phil: HOOTER (6)
DC: TROGGED (7)
OT: HOTDOGGER (18)
Score: 41–71 (max 111)

6s all round from the Champion and Challenger...........Susie gets to shine with her 7 Trogged..........but there was an interesting 9 missed by all...Hotdogger

Image

Round 12: S P B E A I L M E

Marrianne: MEALIES (7)
Phil: SIMPLE (6)
DC: IMPALES (7)
OT: PIMELEAS (8)
Score: 48–71 (max 119)

A good 7 with Mealies from our champion Marrianne will this be enough to save her ? But there was one interesting 8 missed all Pimeleas

Image

Round 13: C L F A I E S R D

Marrianne: CLEARS (6)
Phil: failers
DC: RADICLES (8)
OT: DESCRIAL (8) RADICELS (8)
Score: 54–71 (max 127)

Can our champion pull off a last gasp comeback ??????? as Phil's 7 is disallowed by Susie.......DC get to shine with their 8 Radicles .....14 is the difference so let's see how the next round plays out

Round 14: 25, 50, 2, 5, 5, 10. Target: 515.

C1: 515. 50 × 10 + (5 × 2) + 5 (10)
C2: 515. 50 × 10 + (5 × 2) + 5 (10)
Score: 64–81 (max 137)

Sadly no.................this numbers is nice and straightforward not too taxing.........sadly for our champion Marrianne it is game over

Image

Round 15: T O U G H S I D E

C2 buzzes on 8 seconds to say DOUGHIEST which is correct.
Final Score: 64–91 (max 147)

A fine solve from our Challenger Phil who will be occupying the champions tomorrow for the pentultimate game of Series 89..........take nothing away from Marrianne she will be satisfied with her one win and the teapot............you can join me again to see how Phil gets on.......in the meantime it is bye for now
