GOTW 1-7 Feb

Post by Paul Howe »

This was a difficult poll to compile, there were many good candiates and it wasn't easy to narrow it down. So far my favourite game has always gone on to win, but I'm at a loss to predict this week.

Jim Bentley vs Eoin Monaghan - A new speed 9 record, and a rollocking contest to boot. Eoin is Irish, and therefore excellent at Countdown.

Conor Travers vs Apterous Prime - In case you'd somehow forgotten, here's a reminder that Mr Travers is really rather good at this Countdown business.

Kirk Bevins vs Tom Rowell - A perfect game for the Bevatron (got any Irish relatives mate?). Can he become the first person to achieve this distinction in studio conditions?

Kirk Bevins vs Dinos Sfyris - A game immanent with l'esprit de chevre, featuring excellent picking from both players and one particularly jaw dropping effort from Dinos.

Matthew Green vs James Hurrell - Agonising for Matt as he almost pulls off an great comeback. Not really in the players' control, but the extemely high metamax is also noteworthy.

If you say I am excellent at countdown because I am Irish and so is David O'Donnell-well I thank you for the compliment. But compared to Kirk, or Conor, or you Paul, or so many others- then I am very average indeed.

And at least 2 of those 3 have some Irish DNA ;) . Although I'm only half Irish, which explains why I'm not as good as Conor or Paul Gallen.

Anyway, I've been impressed by your performances on apterous. Hope you continue to improve and we see you on the show one day.

Thanks Paul again, but really I only ever play people et the same ranking as me, and when I played Kirk today I got hammered 109-53, and he missed an easy nine. As for going on the show, I've thought about it but I'm gonna improve on apterous and see when I'm 13 or 14.
