Spoilers for Tuesday 4th October 2022 (Series 86, Heat 77)

Post by Steve Hyde »

After 7 games, Tom has more points than the number 1 seeds from series 79 and 75

Must admit I was expecting a bit more jeopardy after this comment. Imperious Countdowning again, though there was ADULATE available in the round with the 5s

Colin is obsessed with Tom not having lost a round. He ought to shut up about it until the end of the 8th game. It's not that exciting a thing for every round he ever plays.

Yeah I'll admit I was getting a little tired when he kept saying that Tom scored 154, be it directly or indirectly. Overall though Tom did seem a little exasperated at some point during the game - maybe from the pressure or something - but well done on keeping your cool on another 10-max game!

Begs a bit of question though as to why you feel this you had this comment to say about it though to get a full idea:

Also:
CAROTENE in R2
EDICULAS in R10

EDIT: Also... also, according to some averaging of games it looks like we may have someone eeking up to the 1,000 point-mark.

With 876 points in 7 games, averaging to about 125.142857 per game, if Tom meets this average next game he could possibly get about 1001 points overall!

Did anyone in the 9-round format complete an octorun without losing a round in the heats?

No - only Darryl Francis, Harvey Freeman and David Williams solved 8 conundrums in the 9 round era, and all of them dropped at least one round somewhere. Darryl Francis lost the very first round of his octorun, in fact

If a conundrum goes unsolved by anyone, it's not losing the round though. And this is why not losing a round is a lesser achievement than scoring in every round, so we should be talking about Tom scoring in every round.

I'm gonna pretend I didn't see Tom's comment yesterday. Without having seen that comment I would have said this was a really good game (which it was), and that David was a really good player (which he is, especially if he is a non-apterite).

The record is 1061 so he needs 185 to tie. Looking unlikely.

Really feel that David deserves his plaudits- definitely made me feel the pressure, leading me to entertain the thought during Pat's slot that I would potentially be going home. Additionally, felt that the pressure he put on me at the beginning was leading me to miss words I'd normally see. Hope that they make an exception to the rules, and allow him to go on for a 3rd time...

Ah that's why you felt the way you did, will say though David definitely put up a good fight. Think it was those last rounds that got to him though.
