Spoilers for Friday 9 September 2022 (Series 86, Heat 60)
What did Rachel mean by "this one is almost playing itself" after HERATC came out in Round 2? I don't see an obvious word that's an extension of that.
I'm not dead yet. In a rut right now because of stress from work. I'll be back later in S89. I also plan to bring back the Mastergram - if I can find a way to run a timer or clock through pure MediaWiki without having to upload to Vimeo every time.

Nice to have no adverts today. There was always the worry that the Queen's death would ruin television but it made Countdown better!

Adverts are the main reason I barely watch countdown except when people I know are on. I should have watched today! All 4 is very resistant to adblockGavin Chipper wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 5:56 pm Nice to have no adverts today. There's no adverts on All 4 at the moment either I think. Now's the time to binge watch all C4 shows.Dan Byrom wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 6:44 pmAdverts are the main reason I barely watch countdown except when people I know are on. DOTAKUS in R7
R3 Alt.: (50-7)*(8+6) = 602
R6 LNAFP: (7*3+4*2)*7 = 203

I did the 43×14 thing as well. Much nicer.

Interesting that their opening chat revolved around SUDOKU, then it almost comes out in Rd7.
Two annoying things from today's show...
1. Rachel going over the top with her "you should gamble" bullshit. Rein it in!
2. Colin wondering who he "trusts" most when deciding which word to hear first. Actions speak louder than words... you can smile and joke and show enthusiasm all you like, but doing that 'strict arbiter' bullshit will be the reason you'll never even make it as 4th best CD host of all time. Bad habit. Just let the contestants declare following a strict pattern without prejudice. He says he wants the numbers and letters to be the star of the show, but at present he is putting himself front and centre as much as Anne did.

Surely he is at least 4th best by default given that both Des Lynam and Des O'Connor were rubbish hosts and Anne Robinson wasn't much better?L'oisleatch McGraw wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 10:05 pm Interesting that their opening chat revolved around SUDOKU, then it almost comes out in Rd7.

For me, Jeff and Richard are equal at the top. Nick is third. Colin is next but with some improvements in the areas you describe could overtake Nick.

Possibly, but if you've got 7, 8 and 9 you know what you have to do.
7*8*9 + 6*8 + 50 is the standard method, surely.
