Susie explains "midwife" as "a woman who was with the mother as she was giving birth".
I would have expected better from Susie. Because it means "with woman", a man doing the same job would still be a midwife. I've seen this explicitly pointed out in a few places. Indeed, I would probably have expected Susie to point it out.
