Janet: PREENED (7)
Kim: OPENED (6)
DC: REOPENED (8)

Janet draws first blood with a seven, but unlucky for Kim who could've added two more letters to do the same.

Round 3: 100, 6, 10, 10, 9, 4. Target: 719.

Janet: 713. 100 × 6 + 10 × 10 + 9 + 4 (5)

Not a lot of goodies there, everyone missed out on the only seven!

DATURIA refers to DATURINE: a poisonous alkaloid obtained from the seeds of the thorn apple, Datura stramonium, and other plants, later identified with hyoscyamine.

Round 5: L B O I S N O E H

Janet: HOOLIES (7)
Kim: LOOSEN (6)
DC: BOLSHIE (7)
OT: OBELIONS (8)
Score: 29–10 (max 40)

Round 6: 50, 25, 6, 9, 3, 8. Target: 917.

Janet: 914.
Kim: 917. 50 × 3 × 6 + 9 + 8 (10)
Score: 29–20 (max 50)

Kim claws back within striking distance!

Dictionary Corner Break - Adrian talks about how he couldn't get the numbers solution along with him feeling like he's forgotten multiplication & long division, and then the talk divulges into how he believes AI is slowing us down brain-wise. After that, however, Anne asks him about what part of his job he enjoys the most, whether it be a journalist, broadcaster, or columnist. He says he prefers the aspects of it that involve getting more information from asking or talking to others. Other bits in the conversation involve his Croatian mother and ironing.

Round 7: D T A P Y E U L T

Janet: ADEPTLY (7)
Kim: PLATTED (7)
Score: 36–27 (max 57)

A seven from Janet and a risky seven from Kim wipe the max bank clean!

Round 8: V S I M A R B I E

Janet: RABIES (6)
Kim: BRAVES (6)
DC: ARMIES (6)
OT: AMBIERS (7) AMBRIES (7) MAIRIES (7) RIMBASE (7) VIREMIA (7)
Score: 42–33 (max 64)

Round 9: 100, 1, 10, 2, 10, 6. Target: 730.

Janet: 720.
Kim: 730. (6 + 1) × 100 + 10 × 2 + 10 (10)
Score: 42–43 (max 74)

Kim gains a one-point lead with a spot-on solution from the numbers round!

Teatime teaser: TONYLAWN -> WANTONLY

Round 10: S P U O L S E D T

Janet: TOUSLED (7)
Kim: SPOUSED (7)

Janet: WALNUTS (7)
Kim: WALNUTS (7)
DC: WANTLESS (8)
Score: 64–65 (max 118)

Round 13: C S A H D R O A J

Janet: CHORDS (6)
Kim: HOARDS (6)
DC: CHARDS (6)
OT: CHADORS (7)
Score: 70–71 (max 125)

CHADOR: a large piece of cloth that is wrapped around the head and upper body leaving only the face exposed, worn especially by Muslim women.

Round 14: 75, 50, 7, 4, 1, 8. Target: 262.

Janet: 264. (75 - 8 - 1) × 4 (7)
Kim: 259.
RR: 262. (75 + 1) × 4 - 50 + 8 (10)
Score: 77–71 (max 135)

A 2-away solve from Janet gives her some ground for the final round, but it's STILL gonna have to be a crucial conundrum for a win to be eked out!

Round 15: N A G I F N E E D

Kim buzzes on 12 seconds to say DEAFENING which is correct.
Final Score: 77–81 (max 145)

And Janet receives a deafening blow from Kim from that conundrum! Very well done to both players but commiserations to Janet, a very solid player. So solid in fact, she's earned herself a spot in the finals as the #8 seed! But we only have one more preliminary game before we talk about those. For now, I'll leave you all with the statistics of this game. Hope you all enjoy my first recap, I know I did and I hope to do a few more! See you guys for the next one! <3

Thanks for this Andres- I did plan on continuing 84’s recaps but had a few struggles with the recap writer. I do plan on doing more stuff towards the end of 84 (I have some pretty witty stuff I think for the recaps), but glad to share to duty with you for now.
