How will the sale of Channel 4 affect Countdown's future?

I have absolutely no evidence or logic for it, but I also cannot shake an uneasy feeling that the recent news about the privatisation or whatever the right word is of Channel 4 is going to call into question the future of the show that brought us all together. Has anyone any thoughts/insight/reassurances on this?

Very hard to know. We all see it as a culturally important show, but the current 300k viewing figures are a worry, given that a repeat of Lingo gets 3 times that.

Could it be an opportunity for ITV/BBC to bag it and put it on at a decent time?

Could be. But they might also end up changing its nature in undesirable ways.

If it did end up getting axed, then as long as there is some warning, it could be a way of getting those people who have been dragging their feet about applying to finally give it a go.

It won’t, imo.

It’s a culturally significant programme and killing it is a PR catastrafuck.
