I wasn't sure this wasn't already a thing actually. I mean, they've been talking about this sort of thing for years.

Great video - well worth a watch.

Sounds like it could potentially be the start of something amazing.

Always been fascinated with this stuff - my son was sent to school on one of the dress up days in a white coat and stethoscope, clutching an anatomically correct heart with Christiaan Barnard facts on the back!

Not sure if I'm missing something but this new detail made no impression on me at all. There must be something to it I'm not considering as every other person I've heard comment on this story has thought this was a very interesting development but I just had no reaction to it at all.

Agreed.

He wasn't selected for this surgery for being a fine citizen, he was selected because he was ineligible for a human transplant, he was going to die, and it was experimental. He's basically the next step up from a lab rat.

I don't think at all that this incident should have disqualified him from having the transplant. It's just an interesting extra fact I thought. And I think the controversy itself is at least a bit interesting.

Well I suppose it makes the nation at large a bit less sad for him if it goes wrong - perhaps the choice was deliberate!

Will be interesting to see what any autopsy/coroner's report says about how much (if at all) the xenotransplant contributed to his death. Certainly the initial hurdle seems to have been emphatically cleared.
