Game of the Week: First ever Poll!

Post by Paul Howe »

It's the inaugural game of the week poll! Which lovely couple will sneer down on all creation from the top of the Game of the Week Hall of Legends*? Some great games to kick us off, it wasn't easy to choose as the general level of play on apterous really is excellent. Thanks to everyone who sent in their recommendations, please continue to do so as they greatly reduce my workload in compiling the poll. I've set the poll to run for 3 days, not sure if that means it closes at 12:20(ish) on Wednesday or just at the end of the Wednesday.

Kirk Bevins vs Ben Pugh - A good performance from Ben, but it's Kirk's mighty display of speedgoating prowess that makes this game stand out.
http://apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=18471
Kai "Curumba" Laddiman vs "Father" Jon Corby - lots of linguistic cleverness on show here in the underappreciated unlimited format
http://apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=18728
Junaid Mubeen vs Jon Corby - Junaid describes this as the best speed game he's ever been involved in. But is it good enough to win game of the week?
http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=19144
Alex H vs Innis Carson - A record breaking effort from Innis, smashing not only the 9-round apterous record, but also the highest 9-round score in some 20 years of televised Countdown.
http://apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=19421
Steven Briers vs Charlie Reams - This, according to Junaid, is about as good as conundrum attacks get. But is it good enough to win game of the week?
http://apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=19039
Dinos Sfyris vs James Hurrell - One of many high quality speedgoat/goatblitz battles that have been fought this week.
http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=19490
Oliver Garner vs Innis Carson - A well contested tussle in the traditional format.
http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=19150
Joseph Bolas vs Apterous Waldorf - Haha, not really.

Get voting, you cocks!

*Disclaimer: It probably won't be called this.

I would like to say that is my favourite Paul post for a long time, or possibly ever.

I voted for Kirkie's game, so many great spots. I think I would have scored something similar to Ben.

What will be done in the event of a tie? I would suggest Paul, as GotW custodian, should not normally vote, except in the case of a tie-break (sort of like the Speaker for the House of Commons). It may be too late for this GoTW though, in which case let's hope there's no tie.

When Innis told me he'd broken the 9 round record, I thought his meant his own PB. No idea he had broken the high score record for both apterous.org and televised Countdown. So, Congratulations again! :D

Good idea. A tie looks quite likely this week, unfortunately.

Regrettably I already voted for something this week, but I shall drunkenly abuse this power in future.

And sorry for being a nob and not including the game you sent me. Wasn't deliberate, just skipped over it by mistake when I was doing the poll.

The poll has ended! Congratulations to Innis Carson for his awesome record smashing effort and to Alex H for getting resoundingly cunted but taking it like a man.

There'll be a new poll on Sunday, so please continue to submit games either on this week's thread or by PMing me.

Wow, pretty shocked that my game won against the likes of these other classics. Certainly an honour though!
