.co.mk4 - Countdown in Milton Keynes - 4th August 2018
Posted: Tue Feb 27, 2018 7:13 pm
It's back - whose turn will it be this year to be the Don of Milton Keynes? Oh, and as usual, we're doing something that's going to divide the room... so PLEASE READ:
Who: I will once again be joined by Innis and Jason the sound guy. Additionally, if for health reasons, additional help is needed - we have 2 very kind volunteers who will either get to play or to help on the day if we need them. Both of these people have been given free entry to play too, in the event we don't need them to help host.
When: Doors will open at 10:30am on Saturday 4th August for an 11am draw, and an 11:15am start
Where: We're back in the New Queen Vic - our home for many years. We filled it before, we want to fill it again. There are 52 places available for what has become one of the biggest, and most anticipated events on the calendar and you won't want to miss it.
What: You will get 8 9-round games in a familiar format to other years, but this year there is one little change. We're a little annoyed with having to resort to increasingly nasty conundrums to thwart the higher echelons of the room, so to level the playing field a little bit, MK4 will be the first ever event to feature TEN-LETTER CONUNDRUMS. But these conundrums will be real, and workoutable words - no more horror shows, we swear. We will also be running a side-event to be announced at a later date, and we are still the only event with its own sound man!
Why: Well, because you'll get the chance to win plenty of FOCAL points, and also some cool prizes. The night out after is always a blast, and well, frankly we think we put on a pretty good show, so come and have some fun.
How much: We're going to drop the price by a quid this year and have it back to a round 15. Additionally, those of you who entered last year and enter again, can have an extra quid off. Enter this year, and you'll get a quid off next year's entry fee too. It's just a little thank you to our regular attendees. To pay up, please send your money via PayPal to innis_carson@hotmail.co.uk - other options can be made available on request.
How: Some of you will be wondering how I'm doing an upstairs event, and it's a fair question. My kind co-hosts are thinking up a way to carry me up and down from the venue, and aside from that I should be OK. IF this isn't possible, then I will be based remotely, but nearby, and in a position to use various means to heckle you. Don't worry, this will have my stamp all over it whatever happens.
Other Stuff: The venue is in Wolverton, which is one train stop on from Milton Keynes Central. There isn’t very much in Wolverton though, and people tend to go out on the Friday and Saturday in Milton Keynes itself, so if you’re planning on booking a hotel, I would advise doing so in the centre. There are several options, although Travelodge and Jury’s Inn tend to be the 2 that come out on top most often. Milton Keynes Central travels directly to and from lots of places, including London, Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh.
Food options are abundant both in MK and in Wolverton, however as our venue is a pub that has its own café – that is probably the most convenient – however order in advance, because they have a habit of being understaffed and making people wait.
There are a few parking options located in the immediate vicinity, or you can park in the Tesco car park, which stupidly haven’t put any rules in place about it. I would maybe condone buying at least a scratchcard from them though, so they don’t become inclined to put said rules in place for next year.
Any questions, just ask – otherwise, bring it on!
