Sadly missed by fans as well as his friends and family. I particularly loved 'The Clangers' although slightly older than its target audience when it came out. His warm, avuncular voice feels like part of my childhood.
I'd co-incidentally bought 2 Clangers DVDs as part of my kids' Xmas pressies. There will now be a little sadness as well as nostalgia and enjoyment when I watch them with my family.

This is sad news. Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin's animations were distinctly low-tech but they were lovingly produced, and Oliver's warm voice and gift for storytelling shone through everything he did.
Some of my earliest TV memories are of the original black-and-white Noggin the Nog stories which were utterly magical. I remember at the age of about 7 being overwhelmed with emotion by Vernon Elliott's hauntingly beautiful music as the flying machine took off; a few years ago I read Oliver's wonderful autobiography,
Seeing Things, which comes with a CD-ROM of short clips from some of the old shows including that one which was every bit as beautiful as I remembered it.

Magical storytelling, indeed.

Sorry to hear this. The Clangers absolutely rule
I'll have to start watching them on YouTube.
