Well, today could be the beginning of a joyous moment, and also a bit of a sad one too...
Martin Hurst is on for his 8th win today, which will more than likely propel him to #1 on the rankings....
But, unfortunately, there are only 3 shows of
Countdown this week, and NONE at all next week, due to Channel 4's blanket coverage of the Rio Paralympics.
Michael Whitehall returns to DC this week too.
Join Sean for the recap later.

Very well done Martin on becoming an octochamp and number 1 seed.
An excellent set of games there.

Thanks guys,
Amazing experience (much better than my flunked attempt in 1997!) and although I probably should have been nudging a 900 total watching it back again, I'll definitely take 8 wins out of 8 every day of the week!

You were great fun throughout, Martin. My mum says I should take some credit, since you attended CoStAl just before you recorded.
I hope you do well in the finals, Martin. You'd be a worthy winner.

Thanks James - yes, the experience of playing live at the St Albans event definitely helped - I would certainly recommend attending a FOCAL event (if you can) as an important part of preparation to anyone going on the show in the future
as well as a few hundred hours on Apterous of course

Was Owen's performance the lowest-scoring 15-rounder to have included a nine?
