What Am I Puzzle

Post by Joseph Bolas »

Heres yet another puzzle from the PerplexCity series :D Enjoy :)

The distant drums rumbled. We had reached an impasse.

"Where now Sergeant Rutledge?" Harper inquired.

Behind us the other explorers began to arrive, one setting himself by a willow tree.

"I'm not sure," I replied. "I think we may need to ask one of them," nodding in the direction of the now resting travellers.

Harper looked agitated. "Sure that's a good idea?" You told them you always know your next move."

The kid was right. I had learnt my art in the Green Berets, but the last thirteen days trying to stay one step ahead of them was beginning to test my patience.

This was one soldier that wasn't going to get scorched.

What am I?

The words that are bigger in the puzzle above, are also bigger, that the rest of the text, on the actual card :)

Here is a nudge for this puzzle :D

You are looking for a two-word answer that connects the bigger words :D and a hint would be "Sound Dialogue" :)

I have no idea what the hell this is all about - does anyone have an inkling? I'm bracing myself for a massive disappointment once the answer is revealed, would be nice if I was pleasantly surprised...

Well, I recognise quite a lot of the highlighted phrases as film titles, but (even assuming they all are) that doesn't help me answer the question 'What am I?' - unless the answer is 'Someone who likes writing film titles in a larger font'.

Exactly. I fear the puzzle won't make sense even once the answer is revealed, but I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

Yes, the words are films and you are looking for a "sound" that was used in all the films. One Google search should reveal the answer :)

Without Googling, is it the Wilhelm Scream?

Possibly, but whatever the answer it is, it's an utter turd of a puzzle.

Well done Phil and Kai (who PM'd me the answer), it was the Wilhelm Scream. It's a scream that is used in all of the movies (all the words in bigger font).

Apologies to anyone who may have disliked the puzzle .

Sad I know, but this had me thinking of how Variety magazine might break the news that Countdown: The Movie had been greenlit, including the announcement "C. Reams Will Helm". Which is very nearly an anagram.

They did a movie on Scrabble (Word Wars I believe it was called). I don't think though one could be done on competitive Countdown, but if one was possible, I would like to see that :D
