Martin's second game after an impressive century debut yesterday against a tough opponent. Will today's challenger fare any better? I predict fireworks...

OUTSIDE, POCKETS and DISPUTE as equalisers - Not sure if one of them was offered.

Pentane is listed as a mass noun. I'm not sure whether you can have more than one type or multiple pentanes in a restaurant. I decided against risking it on the show.

I got MACHETES at home, but missed out on REBOOT, so I beat myself by 2 points today.

You're right. I could remember one of the alkanes was pluralizable, but I was clearly confusing PENTANE with HEPTANE.

PENTANES aren't likely to be on a restaurant menu, but several isomers do exist - one straight chain, and a couple of branched ones.
An alternative equaller is PENATES.

Well done, Martin - two good games thus far and you look very tidy on the numbers indeed. Pity you entered the series at the business end because it seems like you would have earned a place in the upcoming CoC.

I had ADENOMA as a beater and a nice equaller for round 5:

(10+5)x50+9x9-1=830.

Well played Martin, quality today. I was only 7 ahead of you come the conundrum (as I missed FORESTED oops) so it would have been crucial. Sitting at home I managed the conundrum straight away but had it been a proper crucial I'd have most likely bottled, going on past performances of mine at CO-events.

None of them were offered as there was no T. Unlucky!

Can you have DOLAMEN in the ADENOMA round or am I just making shit up?

That would be it. Also I got confused 'cause today's our Dolmio Day. Now I'll retire back to my den of inequity, shame and half-eaten pasta...

HEPTANES has also been offered by DC recently.

As a matter of fact, there are various isomers of both pentane and heptane (and indeed, any alkane from butane up), but I don't know whether they would be referred to as pentanes or heptanes respectively. But to be valid, ODE would have to either indicate in the definition that there are multiple types or give another meaning in which it is or can be a count noun. What does ODE say exactly?
