I am somewhat distressed by the suggestion that I should "Share Countdowner Parkrunners's Runs!" though!

According to Callum's post an amazing nine CO-eventers turned out for the Blackpool parkrun on Saturday. There were 311 runners in total and the results are available here. And here's how the Countdowners did:

40. Callum Todd - 22:26 (57.50%) (900 points)
80. Bradley Horrocks - 25:06 (51.39%) (800)
149. Stephen Read - 28:01 (47.06%) (700)
178. Adam Latchford - 29:43 (43.41%) (600)
190. Phil Hannan - 30:26 (44.52%) (500)
200. Fiona Thorne - 31:16 (54.96%) (400)
248. Fiona Titcombe - 35:37 (48.90%) (300)
257. Tasneem Rana - 36:39 (46.29%) (200)
262. Chris Marshall - 37:35 (36.05%) (100)

I've put the age-graded percentages there as well, which gives some indication of how well people have done for their age and sex, although a certain amount of salt has to be taken with them. I don't think it's worth doing a points thing for this year. I think maybe we could just start a new championship in the new year. (Edit - Or if FOCAL are including this event for next year's points and maybe last year's COLIN, we could do something similar. So I'll put in what the points for this event would be in brackets.)

Also, I'll update the PB list shortly. New PBs and, perhaps more importantly, new people!

FOCAL are treating 2020-2022 as one season. Obviously you can do what you like with your parkrun leaderboard but that's what's happening with the FOCAL leaderboard.

It might make sense to keep them on the same timetable anyway. By the way, what are the rules about the number of events that count towards your total? It is always a set number (e.g. 8) or some proportion of the total (e.g. 2/3 rounded up/down)? I'm not sure it's worth the complication with parkruns anyway though.

Edit - I see it says 8 on the website.
Focal Points range between 0 and 1000 for each event, based on finishing position and however many people take part. It’s not unusual for individuals to attend nine or ten events over the course of a normal year, but only the best eight appearances will count towards an overall score.

I believe it was initially agreed to be 2/3 rounded up, and this always happened to be 8 apart from 2019 when it was 9. I've not changed that bit of the website yet as depending on how full a calendar we end up with for 2021 it might need changing.

OK, so I will add the results of Blackpool to the ongoing 2020 to 2022 championship.

1. Callum Todd - 1355
2. Bradley Horrocks - 1164
3. Fiona Titcombe - 982
4. Gevin Chapwell - 909
5. Tim Down - 818
6. Mike Springett - 727
7. Stephen Read - 700
8. Dave Ryan - 636
9. Adam Latchford - 600
10. Zubair Patel - 545
11. Phil Hannan - 500
12. Fiona Thorne - 400
13. Suzy Turner - 273
14. Tasneem Rana - 200
15. Chris Marshall - 191

This should be right as the points add up to exactly 10,000 and there have been 20 points scorings - 10 at COLIN, 1 at Manchester an 9 at Blackpool. This gives an average of 500, which is what it should be.

Gavin Chipper wrote: Sat Feb 22, 2020 1:52 pm Just Fiona T (of the CO-eventers) took part in the Heaton parkrun on 15th February before the Manchester tournament. The results out of a whopping 801 runners:

1. Gevin Chapwell - 909

I decided to do a new update today even though it hasn't been that long since the last one (I wonder why...). Well done to Bradley Horrocks for taking over a minute off his PB to get down from 24:35 to 23:31 and climbing two places in the rankings. And after over two years of stagnation, I finally took my PB down from 18:09 to 17:59. There was a bit of an agonising wait for the results to come out for confirmation of the sub-18, but luckily I made it. It hasn't changed my position in the rankings, but Bayfield will be looking behind him now.

Re: CO:parkrun Recaps

We had six Countdowners at the Great Notley parkrun before Countdown in Braintree (COBRA). There were 198 runners in total, and here are the results:

8. Gevin Chapwell - 19:56 (70.07%) (857 points)
20. Thomas Carey - 22:37 (57.04%) (714 points)
30. David Hilton - 24:29 (53.85%) (571 points)
31. Callum Todd - 24:42 (52.23%) (429 points)
90. Fiona Titcombe - 29:07 (59.82%) (286 points)
123. Fiona Thorne - 31:46 (54.09%) (143 points)

This was also Thomas Carey's first ever parkrun and he went the wrong way costing a bit of time, so maybe we have found our next Olympic-level talent. Let's see what this does to the points table:

1. Callum Todd - 1784
2. Gevin Chapwell - 1766
3. Fiona Titcombe - 1268
4. Bradley Horrocks - 1164
5. Tim Down - 818
6. Mike Springett - 727
7. Thomas Carey - 714
8. Stephen Read - 700
9. Dave Ryan - 636
10. Adam Latchford - 600
11. David Hilton - 571
12. Zubair Patel - 545
13. Fiona Thorne - 543
14. Phil Hannan - 500
15. Suzy Turner - 273
16. Tasneem Rana - 200
17. Chris Marshall - 191

These points add up to a nice round 13,000 from the 26 scorings, averaging 500, so that's my check done.

I'll also update the PB list shortly and it will be good to see Thomas Carey appear on there! What position will he be?

Here is the updated list. Thomas Carey is a new entry at number 27 out of 53, so bang in the middle. Matthew Tassier's improvement brings a three-way tie for 22nd. Tom Chafer-Cook has improved by nearly 2.5 minutes but only gains two places in the rankings. There are also improvements from Callum Todd, Bradley Horrocks, Chris Marshall and Tasneem Rana. So a decent haul since the last edit. By the way, I don't know if this has been mentioned, but while John Ashcroft's parkrun PB is a mere 15:15, his 5000m track PB is over a minute faster at 14:13.40.

I was told that 8 people did the Doddington Hall parkrun from COLIN. Looking at the results, I think we have Oliver Garner, Thomas Carey, Bradley Horrocks, David Hilton, Mike Springett, Dinos Sfyris, Fiona Titcombe, Chris Marshall and Callum Todd. That makes 9 actually. Is that everyone though? If so, I'll do the points thing at some point. Shame I couldn't be there.

It's good to hear I was missed. Hopefully it won't happen again! Anyway then, we had nine runners at the Doddington Hall parkrun before COLIN out of a total field of 211 with the results as follows:

2. Oliver Garner - 17:42 (72.88%) (900 points)
30. Thomas Carey - 23:24 (55.13%) (800 points)
31. Bradley Horrocks - 23:30 (54.89%) (700 points)
33. David Hilton - 23:42 (55.63%) (600 points)
40. Mike Springett - 24:16 (53.16%) (500 points)
72. Dinos Sfyris - 26:12 (49.81%) (400 points)
101. Fiona Titcombe - 28:52 (60.33%) (300 points)
178. Chris Marshall - 36:19 (37.31%) (200 points)
179. Callum Todd - 36:20 (35.50%) (100 points)

This was Dinos's first ever parkrun, so shortly I'll need to update the PB table, where we can also see who else has improved their time. Onto the championship table:

1. Callum Todd - 1884
2. Bradley Horrocks - 1864
3. Gevin Chapwell - 1766
4. Fiona Titcombe - 1568
5. Thomas Carey - 1514
6. Mike Springett - 1227

This is shaping up to be an exciting CO:parkrun championship season!

Onto the next one: Manchester. What's the plan? Which parkrun? And is there anyone who is staying at a hotel in Manchester for the event who would be willing to please let me use their hotel room shower after the parkrun so I don't have to turn up to the event still all sweaty?

Me, the Fionas and Tasneem are doing Alexandra which is about 2 miles out from the city centre. Probably the best bet for a group run!

Yes - I've booked the hotel at the event, so you're welcome to use my shower after me!

Manchester looks like quite a good place for parkruns. According to this updated list of quickest parkruns, Stretford is ranked 16, Alexandra is ranked 21, Peel is ranked 35 and South Manchester is ranked 38. That's out of 706 on the list.

We have a new updated list of PBs! First of all, we have a new entry with Dinos going straight into the top 40 at - number 40! Thomas Carey has improved to 22:09 and finds himself in a very competitive area with Ian Volante just ahead on 22:01 and three people all tied on 21:58! But just behind Thomas, we also have Bradley Horrocks who has improved his time to 22:10, and he'll also be looking at breaking through that 21:58 barrier. Tom Chafer-Cook has also improved to 23:49, and Fiona T has beaten the other Fiona T by one second with her new PB of 27:51!

5. Thomas Carey - 1514

I might as well crack on with this now. 349 finishers at Whitley Bay with the following results:

65. Thomas Carey - 22:52 (56.41%) (833 points)
85. Callum Todd - 23:52 (54.05%) (667 points)
125. Stephen Read - 25:34 (51.56%) (500 points)
173. Colin Peet - 27:13 (59.95%) (333 points)
339. Adam Dexter - 41:15 (31.64%) (167 points)

Some guy called Sparrow finished first.

And the championship table:

1. Callum Todd - 3551
2. Bradley Horrocks - 2697
3. Gevin Chapwell - 2433
4. Thomas Carey - 2347
5. Fiona Titcombe - 2068
6. Mike Springett - 1227
7. Stephen Read - 1200
8. David Hilton - 1171
9. Oliver Garner - 900
10. Fiona Thorne - 876
11. Tim Down - 818
12. Dave Ryan - 636
13. Adam Latchford - 600
14. Zubair Patel - 545
15. Phil Hannan - 500
16. Dinos Sfyris - 400
17. Chris Marshall - 391
18. Tasneem Rana - 367
19. Colin Peet - 333
20. Suzy Turner - 273
21. Adam Dexter - 167

This gives a grand total of 23,500 from 47 scoring events giving the correct average of 500. I'll also need to do a new PB list soon to add Colin Peet and Adam Dexter!

Right then - CO:Galway saw five present at the Knocknacarra parkrun. That's a good name for a parkrun! 63 people in total with the following results:

9. Callum Todd - 23:21 (55.25%) (833 points)
10. Thomas Carey - 23:30 (54.89%) (667 points)
15. Bradley Horrocks - 25:17 (51.02%) (500 points)
18. Mike Springett - 25:43 (50.23%) (333 points)
37. Fiona Titcombe - 28:36 (61.66%) (167 points)

Looks like it was a close battle for the "win" between Callum and Tom, with Callum just taking it and he extends his championship lead in the process.

And the championship table:

1. Callum Todd - 4384
2. Bradley Horrocks - 3197
3. Thomas Carey - 3014
4. Gevin Chapwell - 2433
5. Fiona Titcombe - 2235
6. Mike Springett - 1560
7. Stephen Read - 1200
8. David Hilton - 1171
9. Oliver Garner - 900
10. Fiona Thorne - 876
11. Tim Down - 818
12. Dave Ryan - 636
13. Adam Latchford - 600
14. Zubair Patel - 545
15. Phil Hannan - 500
16. Dinos Sfyris - 400
17. Chris Marshall - 391
18. Tasneem Rana - 367
19. Colin Peet - 333
20. Suzy Turner - 273
21. Adam Dexter - 167

That gives 26,000 from 52 scoring events, giving the correct average of 500.

New PB list then. Five new people have been added. We have Colin Peet and Adam Dexter who both made their parkrun debuts at the Newcastle event. We also have Dan Spinks who was at CO:LON and although he didn't take part in the parkrun there, he is a parkrunner and has a PB of 19:31! And finally, I also added Harry Whitehouse (who used to post here) and Kai Laddiman as it's been discovered that they have parkrun times to their names. And congratulations to the improvers: Matthew Tassier, Bradley Horrocks, Tom Chafer-Cook, Jonathan Wynn, Stephen Read, Chris Marshall, and Tasneem Rana. It's quite tight around the 22-minute mark, with quite a few recent improvers around there so things are quite dynamic. Basically going from Matthew Tassier in 23rd on 21:50 to Tom Chafer-Cook in 30th on 22:27.

Right then. Bevendean Down parkrun saw just 29 runners, with the following results:

15. Matthew Tassier - 26:02 (56.21%) (800 points)
16. Jonathan Wynn - 26:22 (50.32%) (600 points)
17. David Hilton - 26:31 (50.03%) (400 points)
26. Fiona Titcombe - 34:28 (51.16%) (200 points)

Matthew, Jonathan and David all in consecutive positions. Spooky!

Hove Promenade saw a slightly larger field of 513 runners, with the followings results:

126. Thomas Carey - 22:42 (56.83%) (500 points)

You may remember it was decided a while ago (well, I decided and no-one complained) that if people do different parkruns, they're scored separately because some courses are quicker than others. So the table:

1. Callum Todd - 4384
2. Thomas Carey - 3514
3. Bradley Horrocks - 3197
4. Fiona Titcombe - 2435
5. Gevin Chapwell - 2433
6. David Hilton - 1571
7. Mike Springett - 1560
8. Stephen Read - 1200
9. Oliver Garner - 900
10. Fiona Thorne - 876
11. Tim Down - 818
12. Matthew Tassier - 800
13. Dave Ryan - 636
14. Adam Latchford - 600
=. Jonathan Wynn - 600
16. Zubair Patel - 545
17. Phil Hannan - 500
18. Dinos Sfyris - 400
19. Chris Marshall - 391
20. Tasneem Rana - 367
21. Colin Peet - 333
22. Suzy Turner - 273
23. Adam Dexter - 167

This gives 28,500 from 57 scoring events, giving the correct average of 500.

Interestingly, Fiona is now just 2 points ahead of me in 4th place! Matthew Tassier and Jonathan Wynn are also both new entries in the championship.

We believe Maus is first to do the parkrun/co-event double (fastest countdowner at the parkrun on the morning of an event, then wins the event too). Bradley and I have been close before but no cigar. And I don't believe Ollie did a parkrun with other Countdowners before either of his London event wins?

Ollie Garner was second place overall and first Countdowner at Highbury Fields parkrun in 2017 and went on to win the CO:LON.

Edit - First Countdowner at Mile End and winner of CO:LON in 2018 as well. How much research did you do?!

Ah nice, so five years later Ollie has company in the parkrun/co-event double club.

My research consisted of trying and failing to remember if co:parkruns were a thing in 2017 and 18.

This is a formal request for age grade rankings as well as times, speaking as a bloke rapidly getting enveloped by middle age and thirty years away from his 5k PB.

My current best is 61.50%. I'm hoping to reach 60% again at some point later this year.

Seconded (76.22%). Though it's a completely different dataset. Your best time isn't necessarily your best age grade ranking.
