Round 1: P H T S I O E N A

Antoinette: PANTIHOSE (18)
Emma: PHONIEST (8)
Score: 18–0 (max 18)

With a spot like that in round one, Antoinette may have killed the game already, but nothing is certain with a full 14 rounds to go.

Round 2: C H C P I E A L T

Antoinette: PLEACH (6)
Emma: PLICATE (7)
DC: CHALICE (7)
OT: CEPHALIC (8)
Score: 18–7 (max 26)

Emma makes up some ground immediately with PLICATE, Antoinette’s word is more obscure but its only a six.
CEPHALIC pertains to childbirth when the fetus is in a position to enter the world head first.

Round 3: 7, 8, 1, 6, 8, 5. Target: 174.

Antoinette: 174. (8+8+7+5+1)*6 (10)
Emma: -
Score: 28–7 (max 36)

Antoinette goes for six small and a low target helps her increase her lead by 10 as Emma is nowhere near it.

Teatime teaser: REELBOOB -> BOERBOEL

Round 4: R T W R O A I E N

Antoinette: WAITRON (7)
Emma: TERRAIN (7)
DC: IRONWARE (8) TRAINER (7)
OT: ANTERIOR (8) INTERWAR (8)
Score: 35–14 (max 44)

Sevens for the contestants but eight was the max here.

Round 5: T L M S A I E N O

Antoinette: LOAMIEST (8)
Emma: ENTAILS (7)
DC: AILMENTS (8)
OT: AMNIOTES (8) LAMINOSE (8) MANLIEST (8) MOANIEST (8) SEMOLINA (8) TOENAILS (8)
Score: 43–14 (max 52)

Antoinette is turning it on here as the advantages of being an apterite take her eight further points clear.

Round 6: 2, 7, 4, 3, 1, 100. Target: 216.

Antoinette: 216. (2*100)+((3+1)*4) (10)
Emma: 216. (2*100)+((7-3)*4) (10)
Score: 53–24 (max 62)

Its an easy one and the gap stays the same.

Round 7: F S M D A E A O E

Antoinette: DEFAMES (7)
Emma: FOAMED (6)
OT: OEDEMAS (7)
Score: 60–24 (max 69)

We are less than halfway through the game and the champ has a 36 point lead thanks to another max round.
OEDEMAS are excessive accumulations of serous fluid in tissue spaces or a body cavity.

Round 8: R G T N J O I U Q

Antoinette: TOURING (7)
Emma: TORQUING (8)
Score: 60–32 (max 77)

That’s impressive from Emma who has already displayed evidence of being a pretty decent player who (like many others) is just unfortunate to be up against a Reams disciple.

Round 9: 3, 1, 4, 10, 7, 1. Target: 429.

Antoinette: 430. ((((4+3-1)*7)+1)*10) (7)
Emma: -
RR: 429. ((4*10)-1)*(7+3+1) (10)
Score: 67–32 (max 87)

Its evident that Emma is quite weak on the numbers as getting one away is not that difficult here and the inroads she made into Antoinette’s lead in the last round are cancelled out.

Teatime teaser: PAULCASH -> CHALUPAS

Round 10: L R B K R O E I D

Antoinette: BROKER (6)
Emma: BROKER (6)
DC: DORKIER (7)
OT: BROILED (7) BROILER (7)
Score: 73–38 (max 94)

Six points each but there were spottable sevens in this round.

Round 11: G R N T E U E A O

Antoinette: OUTRANGE (8)
Emma: OUTRANGE (8)
DC: ENTOURAGE (18)
Score: 81–46 (max 112)

Both contestants are out of range of the nine here, which Len proudly announces.

Round 12: Y P L T I E A U D

Antoinette: PLAITED (7)
Emma: PLAITED (7)
DC: DEPUTY (6)
OT: ADEPTLY (7) DUALITY (7) TEPIDLY (7)
Score: 88–53 (max 119)

Simple enough round increases the scores and, barring a nine from Emma in the next round, gives Antoinette her fourth win.

Round 13: T X D M D O A E R

Antoinette: MADDER (6)
Emma: ROAMED (6)
DC: DEODAR (6) RADOME (6)
OT: ADORED (6) DARTED (6) DOTARD (6) DREAMT (6) MOATED (6) MODDER (6) OMERTA (6) ORATED (6) TRADED (6)
Score: 94–59 (max 125)

And a very flat round confirms what we already knew, that Antoinette is halfway to octochampdom.

Round 14: 2, 5, 1, 8, 25, 100. Target: 334.

Antoinette: 334. ((5-2)*100)+25+8+1 (10)
Emma: 334. ((5-2)*100)+25+8+1 (10)
Score: 104–69 (max 135)

A simple one enables the challenger to get more points and the champion to secure her fourth century.

Round 15: Q U E E R T O G S

Emma buzzes on 3 seconds to say GROTESQUE which is correct.
Final Score: 104–79 (max 145)

That wasn’t the easiest of conundrums so its well done to Emma for spotting that, she displayed some flashes of real quality in that game, particularly with the conundrum and TORQUING, but its not enough to take down the champ.

Antonette’s high scores suggest she could be in for a high seeding place in the finals and that she could be a contender. Dan McColm is obviously the one to beat but Antoinette is one of several contenders who has a shot at taking him down.

Keep it here to follow her progress…
