So, we're back on with Countdown, and during a bank holiday too (well, not for you guys north of the border anyway........... :P ), after an amazing weekend with CoMultiLon.

And after witnessing the brilliance of Mark Davies for the past 8 shows, we're back to square 1 again, with 2 newbies on the show today.

Angellica Bell carries on in DC for today and tomorrow, before Martin "MoneySavingExpert" Lewis comes back in from Wednesday.

Join Andy for the recap later. ;) :) :D

Douglas was a real character. He had a certain style when making his letters selection. I wasn't sure whether he was doing it for a laugh at first, especially after he said his job was a sheep counter.

It's very hard to make a full impression on contestants, but I'm currently halfway through watching the +1 and I'm hoping greatly that Douglas loses... he's doing my nut in. Seems to be doing his opponent's nut in as well.

Also, a blatant edit when he has GAMBLE disallowed. Was there a shout of an expletive or something?

Not quite an expletive but a rather loud grumble.

Yeah, it's the adjective for VULTURE, rather than a tiny VULTURE. :P

Also suffering from DEMENTIA in round 4.

I think I've had a lucky escape. I might have gone deaf or mad playing against him today.

I know that James. Loved Nick's intro to round 4 (I think). Your "shout" Douglas.

Also slightly annoying was Susie not knowing the singular of DICE.

Thought we were going to get 3L in the 2nd numbers game and was then disappointed, until the 4th.
However still disappointed that the 3L solution wasn't a standard method one (the 3Ls at CoMultiLon on Saturday were not standard method either).

Someone sum him up for people who don't watch much any more? Just a bit shouty?

Very shouty. On his first letters pick he said "I'd like a consonant, vowel, consonant, vowel, consonant". When Rachel explained that you could only pick one at a time, he shouted over her anyway and picked the next letter before she'd finished putting the previous one up.

Rachel said she was blonde and could only do one at a time!

I suspect that they had a word with him during the ads as he was a little less shouty in the rest of the show.

See, I wouldn't mind if he was just bonkers and hilarious. But it felt very much to me like he was playing up for the character. I don't mind people being naturally eccentric, but he seemed to be TRYING to dick about, and that just irritates me.

Agreed. As a maths tutor, I cringe when I read textbook examples about throwing "a dice", but it does seem to get accepted in modern English, like "a deadly bacteria" for "a deadly bacterium".

From Andy McGurn's recap:
Round 3: 1, 9, 8, 10, 8, 75. Target: 610.
Russ: 610. (75*8)+10 (10)
Douglas: 610. (75*8)+1+9 (10)
Score: 16–23 (max 25)
The contestants settle for pretty much the same method and Douglas doesn’t have to Pay for his slightly different final addition.

Lol! And now some defence for Tricia if she ever needs it!
