Round 1: D N V E O U W S E

Tricia: WOUNDS (6)
Tick: WOUNDS (6)
DC: VENUES (6) SUNDEW (6)
OT: VENDUES (7)
Score: 6–6 (max 7)

Neither contestant WOUNDS the other in this opening round as both start with six points. DC are also stuck on six but there was a seven in the selection.
VENDUES are public auctions in North America.

Round 2: O A E K R L S I D

Tricia: DARIOLES (8)
Tick: soakier (x)
Score: 14–6 (max 15)

Tick has a cross next to his name as a result of that invalid word. Its not that relevant anyway though as Tricia has an eight.

Round 3: 7, 9, 5, 6, 8, 100. Target: 816.

Tricia: 816. (8*100)+9+7 (10)
Tick: 816. (8*100)+9+7 (10)
Score: 24–16 (max 25)

Tricia always seems to be hoping for easy numbers games like this so se can rely on letters skill to get the wins. It pays off here as its ten points each in this very simple numbers game.

Teatime teaser: BESTIDEA -> DIABETES

Round 4: O E A M T F S E O

Tricia: FOAMS (5)
Tick: EMOTES (6)
DC: FEATS (5)
Score: 24–22 (max 31)

Tick one in the maxes box for the challenger as he makes up a bit of ground with a nice six.

Round 5: J G T I E D I L C

Tricia: ELICIT (6)
Tick: JILTED (6)
OT: DELICT (6)
Score: 30–28 (max 37)

Both contestants max a letters round for the first time in the game as Tricia retains her narrow lead.

Round 6: 5, 1, 4, 4, 25, 100. Target: 319.

Tricia: 319. (4-1)*(100+5)+4 (10)
Tick: 320.
Score: 40–28 (max 47)

Tick goes for two large but he must have panicked a bit as he misses a pretty simple numbers game enabling Tricia to shoot ahead with her solve.

Round 7: H S V O A U A L O

Tricia: HAULS (5)
Tick: HALOS (5)
DC: SHOAL (5) HALVA (5)
Rachael: ALOHAS (6)
Score: 45–33 (max 53)

Its just fives for the contestants and DC giving Rachael a chance to take the spotlight as its her who gets the Darren in this round.

Round 8: R N B U I O E N L

Tricia: BONNIER (7)
Tick: BUNION (6)
DC: UNBORN (6)
OT: REUNION (7)
Score: 52–33 (max 60)

Tick’s six is arguably a better spot than Tricia’s seven but its length that counts and Tricia stretches her lead further here.

Round 9: 4, 9, 5, 8, 7, 25. Target: 579.

Tricia: -
Tick: 579. (25*4*5)+(8*9)+7 (10)
Score: 52–43 (max 70)

You’d expect a PHD student in cosmology to tick all the boxes in Maths and despite his bad miss in the last numbers round he does get it here to get back to within ten.

Teatime teaser: CRABLIDS -> BALDRICS

Round 10: R D R I E T N A E

Tricia: RETRAINED (18)
Tick: RETAINED (8)
Score: 70–43 (max 88)

A situation in which having the first declaration is decisive. Tick seemed to be thinking of saying nine but didn’t risk it. If Tricia had declared first the gap would still be at nine, as it is she has almost secured the game as she shoots to a 27 point lead

Round 11: P X G I O E T D I

Tricia: PITIED (6)
Tick: DETOX (5)
DC: IDIOT (5)
Score: 76–43 (max 94)

It may be that Tick’s agonising previous round caused him to lose more concentration here as, its almost all over now as he misses the max.

Round 12: S A M O D I Y P E

Tricia: IMPOSED (7)
Tick: SOAPED (6)
DC: MYOPIA (6) SOMEDAY (7)
OT: SYMPODIA (8)
Score: 83–43 (max 102)

..and with that round, it IS all over.

Round 13: R B T O A E Q A N

Tricia: BARONET (7)
Tick: BARONET (7)
DC: ANTBEAR (7)
Score: 90–50 (max 109)

Games over already but nice for Tick that he gets another max.

Round 14: 8, 10, 7, 1, 75, 25. Target: 582.

Tricia: 582. (75-1)*8)-10 (10)
Tick: -
Score: 100–50 (max 119)

Tick tock to start the clock, and Tricia again gets the two large. Tick has made that selection twice but zero pointed both times…

Round 15: S L E E P G U R U

Tricia buzzes on 12 seconds to say SUPERGLUE which is correct.
Final Score: 110–50 (max 129)

Once again Tricia uses pen and paper to get the solution and again she is right.

I though Tick seemed like a pretty likeable bloke and at the very least seemed to enjoy his time on the show, which is after all what he show should be about.

We’re back to five days a week countdown now which is a real relief after only one show last week…
