A 10-year-old is 6 years young for Countdown. That’s about the only legit reason to use the phrase IMO.Elliott Mellor wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 6:02 pm People who say "x years young!" when talking about a person's birthday. It does not even make sense, and just sounds really ridiculous.
Even then, you'd say "6 years TOO young".Johnny Canuck wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 10:36 pmA 10-year-old is 6 years young for Countdown. Meh, just the use of an antonym for effect. There's probably a linguistic term for this, but I don't know what it is.Elliott Mellor wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 6:02 pm People who say "x years young!" when talking about a person's birthday. Rooney's lawyer claims WhatsApp messages that would show the leaking of stories to the Sun are on a phone dropped off the side of a boat. He says it is now "lying at the bottom of sea in Davy Jones' locker".
Vardy asks the court: "Who is Davy Jones?"
The judge intervenes.

I have long wondered about what the optimal size gap is to leave when stopped or moving very slowly in a long queue of traffic. Too much, as you indicate, is clearly inconsiderate and causes the queue of traffic behind to tail back further, but I'm not sure going absolutely bumper to bumper is ideal either as although it shortens the length of the queue while stopped it also slows down the restart and makes it difficult to clear the road in case of an emergency vehicle needing to cut through the traffic, or if there is a bump (which would surely be more likely if everyone's getting as close as they can!)Adam Gillard wrote: ↑Wed Aug 10, 2022 2:45 pm People who leave a big gap to the car in front at traffic lights, then edge forward in a stop-start manner while the lights are still red.

Pretty sure that is a different Piers,
Being "on your period" is a euphemism for "cunt-bleeding"... if you are so principled about rejecting euphemisms and using 'honest' (read: nasty) language instead... why not that one?Callum Todd wrote: ↑Wed Aug 24, 2022 5:14 pmtell me it's not accurate. Think I've already answered that in the other thread so won't clog up a third thread on this forum with my animal wellbeing diatribe. Some people took this to a new level today by doing the London Marathon but leaving it titled as "Morning Run", with no description about it or anything. That's truly psychopathic.Gavin Chipper wrote: ↑Wed Dec 15, 2021 6:31 pm People who log their runs on Strava but just leave them as their default name - e.g. Morning Run or Afternoon Run.

You know some watches just upload an activity with that title automatically, right?Gavin Chipper wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 8:41 pmSome people took this to a new level today by doing the London Marathon but leaving it titled as "Morning Run", with no description about it or anything. Indeed - activity gets uploaded automagically, and edited some time later (from minutes to hours to never)Tim Down wrote: ↑Sat Oct 08, 2022 3:46 pmYou know some watches just upload an activity with that title automatically, right?Gavin Chipper wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 8:41 pmSome people took this to a new level today by doing the London Marathon but leaving it titled as "Morning Run", with no description about it or anything. It's the default title on Strava (Morning Run, Lunch Run, Afternoon Run etc.) But some people just leave it like that for ages after it uploads (and maybe forever).Tim Down wrote: ↑Sat Oct 08, 2022 3:46 pmYou know some watches just upload an activity with that title automatically, right?Gavin Chipper wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 8:41 pmSome people took this to a new level today by doing the London Marathon but leaving it titled as "Morning Run", with no description about it or anything. Perhaps you need to create an instructional video!Gavin Chipper wrote: ↑Sat Oct 08, 2022 5:04 pm
The way I have it set up is that when it uploads from my watch, it defaults to private so only I can see it. Then I edit the title and put any comments I want before releasing it to the masses. This is the Proper Way. Otherwise, when people scroll through their feed, they might only see it as Morning Run, and not see it again once you've changed it.

So I gave this a go but it changed all my historic activities too so would have to edit them all to make them visible. You'll have to live with Morning Run for now!Gavin Chipper wrote: ↑Sat Oct 08, 2022 8:43 pmOoh yes, that would be an idea.Fiona T wrote: ↑Sat Oct 08, 2022 8:37 pmPerhaps you need to create an instructional video!Gavin Chipper wrote: ↑Sat Oct 08, 2022 5:04 pm

Tried this again and it appears to have worked - did it on the desktop rather than the app, so maybe different behaviour, or maybe they fixed it!
I did a run yesterday and Gev hasn't kudosed it yet - at what point do we report him missing? OK, so I have to admit that nowadays I just leave my Garmin in kilometres the whole time. I did a 5-mile race and a 10-mile race not so long ago and just left it. That's who I am now.Gavin Chipper wrote: ↑Thu Dec 16, 2021 3:25 pmWell, on Strava it comes up with whatever units I've got in my setting anyway, but I just find it slightly strange when I hear people's watches beeping at the mile intervals in a parkrun. And when people talk about whether a parkrun is long or short, they're like "I measured it as 3.14 today." Great. That's quite short. It's meant to be 5.Tim Down wrote: ↑Thu Dec 16, 2021 2:45 pmGuilty, guilty. Can't be bothered to change the units on my watch. Can you not do the conversion in your head, Mr Numbers? You can change your Strava settings to show in miles if you prefer. Personally I always use km unless I'm doing a race that fits really neatly into miles (e.g. if I was trying to do a 10 mile race in 90 minutes I would set my watch to miles and try do 9:00 pace)
