Round 1: P Q M U E D I O T

Sean: QUOTED (6)
Aaron: PIQUED (6)
DC: TEDIUM (6) IMPUTED (7)
OT: QUOITED (7)
Score: 6–6 (max 7)

Our contestants start out with sixes, but there are two sevens available.

Round 2: M R A N E I B D T

Sean: TRAINED (7)
Aaron: TRAINED (7)
DC: BANDIER (7)
OT: AMBIENT (7) ANTBIRD (7) BARTEND (7) BRAINED (7) DETRAIN (7) MEDIANT (7) MERANTI (7) MINARET (7) RAIMENT (7) READMIT (7) TRIBADE (7)
Score: 13–13 (max 14)

Loads of sevens here, and both contestants get one.

Round 3: 100, 1, 1, 10, 4, 10. Target: 569.

Sean: 565. (100+10+1)x(4+1)+10 (7)
Aaron: -
RR: 570. (7)
Score: 20–13 (max 21)

Aaron struggles a bit with the numbers here so Sean picks up seven points for being four away. Rachel is one away, which I think is the max.

Teatime teaser: COMRADES -> MERCADOS

Round 4: R A F E O S D L I

Sean: SOLDIER (7)
Aaron: FOLDERS (7)
DC: FLARES (6) ORDEALS (7) DARIOLES (8)
OT: FORESAIL (8)
Score: 27–20 (max 29)

Sevens for the contestants, DC gets one of the eights.

Round 5: S N E T S U O M V

Sean: MOUNTS (6)
Aaron: STOVES (6)
DC: SUNSET (6)
OT: MENTOS (6) MESONS (6) MONSES (6) MOUSES (6) MOUSSE (6) MUTONS (6) NUTSOS (6) ONSETS (6) ONUSES (6) SENSUM (6) SETONS (6) SNOUTS (6) STENOS (6) STONES (6) VENOUS (6)
Score: 33–26 (max 35)

Lots and lots of sixes here in a very flat round.

Round 6: 75, 50, 5, 6, 1, 9. Target: 772.

Sean: 769. (75+1)x(50/5)+9 (7)
Aaron: -
RR: 772. (75+5+50)x6-(9-1) (10)
Score: 40–26 (max 45)

The numbers are a bit too tricky for Aaron once more so Sean gets another seven points, this time for being three away. Rachel has the exact solution.

Round 7: C L R A E S K A G

Sean: CREAKS (6)
Aaron: SLACKER (7)
DC: GRACKLES (8)
Score: 40–33 (max 53)

Aaron gets seven points back with SLACKER, but DC have a nice darrenic eight.

Round 8: X M R I E F A R S

Sean: FARMERS (7)
Aaron: FRAMERS (7)
DC: MARRIES (7) FIREARMS (8)
Score: 47–40 (max 61)

Sevens from the contestants, but DC have the darrenic eight again.

Round 9: 75, 3, 5, 3, 9, 10. Target: 640.

Sean: 640. 75x9-(10-3)x5 (10)
Aaron: 640. 75x9-(10x3+5) (10)
Score: 57–50 (max 71)

It's Aaron's first points on numbers, and both contestants' first exact numbers solve of the game. Ten points each.

Teatime teaser: TENGIRLS -> STERLING

Round 10: T R T E O N A R U

Sean: RETURN (6)
Aaron: notater
DC: TORTURE (7) TORRENT (7)
OT: TAUNTER (7)
Score: 63–50 (max 78)

Aaron is unlucky here as NOTATOR is the word, not notater. There were three sevens available there though, two of which were spotted by DC.

Round 11: C T I N W E O S N

Sean: TOWNIES (7)
Aaron: SECTION (7)
DC: CONSENT (7)
OT: INTONES (7) NEWTONS (7) NOTICES (7) TENSION (7)
Score: 70–57 (max 85)

A nice flat round of sevens.

Susie's origins of words tells us all about the origin of the word quiz. Very interesting.

Round 12: L E A H G D O S E

Sean: GASHED (6)
Aaron: LEASED (6)
DC: HEDGES (6) GALOSH (6) LEASHED (7)
OT: SHOALED (7)
Score: 76–63 (max 92)

Sixes from the contestants, DC get on e of the two sevens.

Round 13: V D G O I R H O I

Sean: RIGID (5)
Aaron: RIGID (5)
DC: OVOID (5)
OT: VIGORO (6) VIROID (6)
Score: 81–68 (max 98)

This is quite a nasty round, and the studio has no advance on five. Two tricky sixes were lurking though.

Round 14: 75, 5, 3, 9, 4, 6. Target: 599.

Sean: 599. (3+5)x75-(4-(9-6)) (10)
Aaron: 599. (3+5)x75-(4-(9-6)) (10)
Score: 91–78 (max 108)

Both contestants get the numbers again, meaning Sean will seal his fourth win today.

Round 15: T E N S E D R I P

Sean buzzes on 8 seconds to say PRESIDENT which is correct.
Final Score: 101–78 (max 118)

And Sean rounds off another victory with a conundrum solve, taking him past the 100 point mark.

So, another strong performance from Sean has seen him reach four wins now. He will be hoping to push on towards octochampdom, or reach the quarter finals. It's likely he will need six or more wins to get there though, and six has been a tough target to reach for many strong players this season. Join Andy next Monday to see how he does.

Statistics
Raw score: Sean 107 - Aaron 78
Maximums: Sean 6 - Aaron 5
