So, we're now in the episodes that were recorded this year today, but we're still as far away from a first octochamp of the series, as we were 5 weeks ago........... :P

Following Andy's loss on Thursday, his conqueror, Martin, lost on Friday to our now current champion, Graeme Cheek. Will he be our newest hope in becoming an octochamp, or will he be quickly forgotten by the end of the day :?: :?:

In DC this week for his 2nd stint is the Daybreak showbiz reporter, Richard Arnold.

Join Andy for the recap later on. ;) :) :D

I would have preferred the mispicked S not the N there, but with the S the max looks like 6 not 7.

Slightly annoyed by the belief that 6x50x2 is a different method to 6x2x50.

Weird how there's been a massive flux of 3-vowel picking this series. I wonder if the section of the contestant guidelines which tells contestants that "4 vowels is generally the best pick" or something similar has been removed.

Before the start of Andy's run a couple of weeks ago, there seemed to be more 4-vowel picking than usual if anything this series, to me anyway. There'll always be players who prefer three vowels so I don't think the recent increase in 3-vowelling is anything unusual.

Or even 6x25x2 to 6x2x25. :P :geek: :ugeek:

2nd Numbers Alt.: (75 x 2) + (8 x 7) - (5 - 2) = 203

The 4 vowel suggestion was definitely still present for the games filmed this week!

Good, because if you three vowel more than half of your rounds then I'm blocking you on apterous.

(Meant in jest, but actually.... ;) )

Better for whom?

If I was a challenger, up against a champion who went for four large, say, I'd go for something else. And if he went for four vowels (and I suspected him of having memorised the 2000 most common words), I'd go for something else. As a viewer I much prefer scratching around for an unusual six than spotting IDOLATERS before the clock has started.

Better for us! :)

Nah you have a fair point, most contestants pick to win rather than score, which is the right thing to do unless they're confident of doing well and chasing a particular seeding (they might be trying to get to 6 wins with more points than Bobby scored for example). I just want to see more open rounds really as I find them more enjoyable, so that's a selfish opinion more than anything else. But the last three nines on the show were PREDACITY, STEADINGS and TRAPESING, so, er, how stupid do I look right now?

In recent times I've come across UPDATIONS. As I understand it it's an Indianism. Is it in the ODE?
