Round 1: C I V A N O G E N

C1: CANOEING (8)
C2: VICE (4)
DC: CAVING (6)
Score: 8–0 (max 8)

After the early talk by Sean and Susie about their aquatic credentials, quite an appropriate darrenic 8 is spotted by Ciarán here. 8-)

Round 2: I S B E Q A M T U

C1: QUIETS (6)
C2: QUIETS (6)
DC: BISQUE (6) BEAUTS (6)
OT: AMBITS (6) AUTISM (6) BASQUE (6) IAMBUS (6) IMBUES (6) MAQUIS (6) MASQUE (6) MATIES (6) MEATUS (6) QUBITS (6) SAMITE (6) SUBMIT (6)
Score: 14–6 (max 14)

Just loads and loads of 6's, they said on the QUIETS. :P :?

A MAQUI is an evergreen shrub, Aristotelia chilensis, of Chile, having toothed, oblong leaves, greenish-white flowers, and purple berries, grown as an ornamental in Southern California.
A MEATUS is an opening or foramen, especially in a bone or bony structure, as the opening of the ear or nose.
A QUBIT (or QUANTUM BIT) is the fundamental unit of information in a quantum computer, capable of existing in two states, 0 or 1, simultaneously or at a different time.
SAMITE is a heavy silk fabric, sometimes interwoven with gold, worn in the Middle Ages.

Round 3: 75, 2, 2, 5, 5, 9. Target: 395.

C1: 395. (75 + 2 + 2) x 5 (10)
C2: 395. (75 x 5) + ((2 + 2) x 5) (10)
Score: 24–16 (max 24)

The compact and extended versions of this method are shown here, but it's 10 points each here. 8-)

Teatime teaser: TUGSHARD -> DRAUGHTS

Round 4: D O S R E T Y A E

C1: ROASTED (7)
C2: STARED (6)
DC: DEAREST (7) STEADY (6)
OT: STOREYED (8)
Score: 31–16 (max 32)

Another good 7 sees Ciarán threatening to break away already, but there was a darrenic 8 missed by all there............

Round 5: S O D U R I N O A

C1: ORDAINS (7)
C2: DRAINS (6)
DC: DINOSAUR (8)
Score: 38–16 (max 40)

Another 7 from Ciarán, while DC do go darrenic with the 8 this time. 8-)

Round 6: 6, 3, 8, 1, 7, 6. Target: 884.

C1: 881. Mistake in working.
C2: 884. Mistake in working.
RR: 884. (((6 x 8 x 6) + 7) x 3) - 1 (10)
Score: 38–16 (max 50)

Now, everyone should know by now that you should NEVER (UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES) let Rachel pick your choice of numbers for you........

Helen talks about her training that she did for her high-wire walk between two of the towers at Battersea Power Station. 8-)

Round 7: C I T U G O S A E

C1: OUTAGES (7)
C2: STOIC (5)
DC: AGOUTIS (7)
OT: ACETOUS (7) CAGIEST (7) SCUTAGE (7)
Score: 45–16 (max 57)

That good old favourite OUTAGES appears yet again. :D

ACETOUS is an adjective meaning containing or producing acetic acid.
In the feudal system, SCUTAGE is a payment exacted by a lord in lieu of military service due to him by the holder of a fee.

Round 8: P D I A X N U E P

C1: PAINED (6)
C2: NIPPED (6)
DC: EXPAND (6) APPENDIX (8)
Score: 51–22 (max 65)

WOW!! What an 8 from DC. I must admit that my dad got it instantaneously, and I probably wouldn't have seen it. :P

Round 9: 75, 7, 2, 6, 2, 8. Target: 102.

C1: 102. Mistake in working.
C2: 100. Mistake in working.
RR: 102. (2 x 8) + 6 - 2 + 7 + 75 (10)
Score: 51–22 (max 75)

If the last numbers game was understandable for its misses, then this one is almost impossible to understand :!: :!: :? :o :P    (Especially as Sean's 100 was ended when he said "1 + 8..........."  (But, he did at least see the funny side of it. :) ))

Teatime teaser: INSANEFC -> FINANCES

Round 10: D O N E R M I P O

C1: MOODIER (7)
C2: PRIMED (6)
DC: MINORED (7) PONDER (6)
OT: DOOMIER (7) DOORMEN (7) IONOMER (7) MOIDORE (7) MOONIER (7) PREDOOM (7)
Score: 58–22 (max 82)

A MOODIER 7 from Ciarán, as he edges closer and closer to his 2nd win. :)

Round 11: V I S U P E N O Z

C1: SUPINE (6)
C2: NOISE (5)
DC: ENVIOUS (7) PONZU (5)
OT: NIVEOUS (7) VEINOUS (7)
Score: 64–22 (max 89)

Sean seems to be staying 1 behind all the time, which is of course not quite good enough in this show, but it hasn't dampened his spirits, which is nice to see. :)

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of the head-related words, "kowtow", "kop", "penguin" and "teste".

Round 12: S I R F A M L E N

C1: REMAINS (7)
C2: FLAMIER (7)
DC: RIFLEMAN (8) MINERALS (8)
OT: FLAMINES (8) INFLAMES (8)
Score: 71–29 (max 97)

Sean scores some points again, which keeps him happy, while at the same time, makes Ciarán happy, as he now has his 2nd win wrapped up. 8-)

In Ancient Rome, a FLAMEN (plural FLAMENS/FLAMINES) was a priest.

Round 13: D O M E T A R I L

C1: LOAMIER (7)
C2: TRAILED (7)
DC: LEOTARD (7) MEDIATOR (8) IDOLATER (8)
OT: TAILORED (8)
Score: 78–36 (max 105)

LEOTARD makes a welcome appearance, as do a couple of 8's in this one.

Round 14: 25, 5, 8, 9, 2, 6. Target: 250.

C1: 250. 2 x 5 x 25 (10)
C2: 250. (8 + 2) x 25 (10)
Score: 88–46 (max 115)

At least they can't mess this one up :!: :!: :P :P

Round 15: M I N D F O R C E

C1 buzzes on 24.75 seconds to say CONFIRMED which is correct.
Final Score: 98–46 (max 125)

After a long delay, Ciarán has his win CONFIRMED, and with two 90's scores, he's definitely setting the bar for the series' early pacesetters. He's made himself feel at home in the studio, and he might be able to do what Bobby Banerjee couldn't quite do, but there's a long way to go yet...............

Join me tomorrow to see if he can get a hat-trick of wins.

Till then, bye bye. ;) :) :D
