Round 1: S M R U O E T C I

C1: CUSTOMER (8)
C2: RUSTIC (6)
DC: COSTUMIER (18)
Score: 8–0 (max 18)

TOM CRUISE makes an appearance in round 1 today, as everyone will be aware that he's an anagram of COSTUMIER, which luckily DC know, but Danny's a bit RUSTIC to start off with today. :P

Round 2: S E R N E R M O V

C1: REMOVES (7)
C2: MOVERS (6)
DC: REMOVERS (8)
Score: 15–0 (max 26)

I think our contestants should get in touch with CERN and put themselves and their words into the Large Hadron Collider, then their words might be slightly better. 8-) :P

Round 3: 25, 5, 5, 2, 7, 8. Target: 846.

C1: 835.
C2: -
RR: 846. (((25 x 7) - 5) x 5) - (8 / 2) (10)
Score: 15–0 (max 36)

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Bobby is just out of range and Danny is nowhere near. Come forth, Rachel :!: :D

Teatime teaser: MADSMILE -> DILEMMAS

Round 4: R F O S T E P A O

C1: stooper
C2: FOSTER (6)
DC: FORETOPS (8)
OT: POOFTERS (8)
Score: 15–6 (max 44)

Bobby has STOOPed to new depths with his offering, which is good news for Danny. :)

Round 5: B Y E U T P S I E

C1: BUSTY (5)
C2: BITES (5)
DC: UBIETY (6) SUBTYPE (7)
Score: 20–11 (max 51)

Hmmm, some BUSTY BITES. Sounds like a delicacy at certain clubs............ :P  And an impressive 6 and darrenic 7 from DC there. :D

Round 6: 75, 50, 8, 4, 3, 9. Target: 980.

C1: 975. (9 + 4) x 75 (7)
C2: -
RR: 980. ((9 + 4) x 75) + 8 - 3 (10)
Score: 27–11 (max 61)

Danny blanks out again, but Bobby makes a mega cock-up by firstly not adding the 3 to make his total 978. But, even more shockingly, he doesn't realise that he has an 8 and a 3 left over to make the 5 needed for the 10 points..............

John carries on with anniversaries and things that first happened in 1914, and following Rachel's recent exploits on Strictly Come Dancing, he talks about the start of the Foxtrot.

Round 7: A D L S I O G I H

C1: GALOSH (6)
C2: SOLID (5)
DC: HIDALGOS (8)
Score: 33–11 (max 69)

Danny may have a SOLID offering, but it's knocked down by Bobby's GALOSH. Another impressive darren from DC too.

Round 8: G O T E R N D U S

C1: STURGEON (8)
C2: ROUNDS (6)
DC: ROUND (5) GROUNDS (7) ROUNDEST (8)
OT: GUERDONS (8) TONSURED (8) TRUDGENS (8) UNSORTED (8)
Score: 41–11 (max 77)

Well, it's taken a good while, but we finally have the first MAX of the game thanks to Bobby's super impressive STURGEON. :D

Round 9: 100, 5, 8, 8, 4, 4. Target: 350.

C1: 348. ((100 - (8 x 4)) x 5) + 8 (7)
C2: -
RR: 350. (((8 / 4) + 5) x 100) / (8 / 4) (10)
Score: 48–11 (max 87)

3 numbers games on the spin and we still have had no input from Danny, but Rachel manages to get perfection this time.

Teatime teaser: IPLAYACT -> ATYPICAL

Round 10: P E G H O T N E I

C1: OPTING (6)
C2: -
DC: POTHEEN (7)
OT: EPIGONE (7)
Score: 54–11 (max 94)

Now Danny's numbers form goes into his letters game, and Bobby can just canter to his 3rd win now..........

An EPIGONE is an undistinguished imitator, follower, or successor of an important writer, painter, etc.

Round 11: D T K E I U Q L A

C1: QUILTED (7)
C2: aquited
DC: TEQUILA (7) LIQUATED (8)
Score: 61–11 (max 102)

He might be off with his spelling, but you have to admire Danny for making the most of his time there. He seems to be enjoying himself, and having the time of life with his laid back attitude. ;) :) :D

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of the computer terms, "wiki" and "reboot".

Round 12: F I T A E R N E J

C1: FAINTER (7)
C2: TIRE (4)
DC: TRAINEE (7)
OT: FEINTER (7) RETINAE (7)
Score: 68–11 (max 109)

Danny is definitely beginning to TIRE now, as Bobby wraps up his 3rd win.

Round 13: D W I D E N B A O

C1: BONDED (6)
C2: binded
DC: BANDIED (7)
OT: WIDEBAND (8)
Score: 74–11 (max 117)

Danny still shows his fun side at being told his latest offering isn't in the dictionary, but at least he won't be remembered for having the lowest score in the show's history. :)

WIDEBAND is an adjective meaning responding to or operating at a wide band of frequencies.

Round 14: 50, 25, 5, 4, 10, 7. Target: 464.

C1: 464. (50 x 10) - (25 + 7 + 4) (10)
C2: -
Score: 84–11 (max 127)

4 out of 4 blanks from Danny, but I'm sure he doesn't mind, although it's much rosier news for Bobby who solves it perfectly for the first time today. :D

Round 15: I N T E R G I F T

C1 buzzes on 24.25 seconds to say REFITTING which is correct.
Final Score: 94–11 (max 137)

A bit of a late solve from Bobby, but it gives him his highest score of his run to date.

Danny seemed to enjoy his day out, and while he might have only scored 11 points, I think he has shown that points aren't everything when it comes to Countdown.

But, so far 2014 has been all about Bobby Banerjee, 3 wins out of 3. Is he destined to be the first octochamp of Series 70 :?: Join me tomorrow to see if he can reach half-octochampdom.

Till then, bye bye for now. ;) :) :D  8-)
