Who do you think had to go through more to win their series?

I see two votes for Callum so far!

Was that an unintelligent question?

Why did you pick those two?

Because they have not been octochamps

Ben Wilson was a viscount though, and they were limited to six games in Series 46 rather than eight. Therefore Ben could have/should have/would have been an octochamp.

Gee, why would they do that?

Not that I don't know about the rule back then, but I'm just curious as to why they would institute it.

http://wiki.apterous.org/ is your best answer, Jason, although why they did it I have no idea.

It doesn't say he was a viscount, Rhys. It says he was the first ever champion in the 15-round format.

Series 46 (Ben's series) was the first with 15-round games rather than 9 rounds, so they probably thought that 6 games was enough for someone. 6 games with 15 rounds each is 90 rounds in total, whereas 8 games with 9 rounds each is 72, so even with just 6 games, viscounts were playing more rounds than the old octochamps. Also, series 46 was just 3 months long, and with series after that generally being more like 6 months, having viscounts was likely to lead to having more than 8 unbeaten players going for 8 quarter final places. So that's probably why they went back to octochamps.

Most people have voted for Callum in the poll because he had to beat players of a higher standard than Ben. Not only did he have to beat the top three seeds, but they were the highest scoring ever 1, 2 and 3 respectively.

Series 46 was only a 3 month series which is why they had viscounts rather than octochamps

I'm surprised at you and them Gavin. You, because you know so much about Countdown and them, because they came up with that rule and they took so long to fix it. I know they did eventually.
