Enjoy the show.

Round 1: T S G L A E A E H

C1: HASTE (5)
C2: STEAL (5)
DC: AGLETS (6) LEGATES (7)
OT: EAGLETS (7)
Score: 5–5 (max 7)

A slow start by our contestants today, but DC get off to a brilliant start with a 6 and a 7 (although they could've add the other E to their 6 to get the other 7 available........ )

Round 2: A O A N S T U A Y

C1: outsay
C2: NASTY (5)
DC: SATAY (5) AUNTS (5) SAUNA (5) SONATA (6)
OT: SUNYATA (7)
Score: 5–10 (max 14)

Anne tries a risky 6, which isn't there unfortunately, and not even DC can spot the darrenic 7 this time.............

In Buddhist philosophy, SUNYATA is the voidness that constitutes ultimate reality; sunyata is seen not as a negation of existence but rather as the undifferentiation out of which all apparent entities, distinctions, and dualities arise.

Round 3: 50, 5, 6, 8, 4, 3. Target: 131.

C1: 131. (3 x 50) - ((6 x 4) - 5) (10)
C2: 130.
Score: 15–10 (max 24)

A nice low target for the target, but it proves too tricky for Joe, and Anne's 5 point deficit has now turned into a 5 point lead. 8-)

Teatime teaser: HISMODEL -> DEMOLISH

Round 4: S T W E O I L F O

C1: LOWEST (6)
C2: wooliest
DC: FOOTLES (7)
OT: FLOOSIE (7) FOLIOSE (7) FOOTSIE (7) OOFIEST (7) OOLITES (7) OSTIOLE (7) STOOLIE (7) WITLOOF (7)
Score: 21–10 (max 31)

Another unlucky guess, this time by Joe, as you need a 2nd L for WOOLLIEST................

FOLIOSE is an adjective meaning having a leaflike thallus loosely attached to a surface, as certain lichens.
An OOLITE (or EGG STONE) is a limestone composed of minute rounded concretions resembling fish roe, in some places altered to ironstone by replacement with iron oxide.
An OSTIOLE is a small opening or pore, especially in the fruiting body of a fungus.
A STOOLIE (or STOOL PIGEON) is a person employed or acting as a decoy or informer, especially for the police.
A WITLOOF is a widely cultivated herb with leaves valued as salad green; either curly serrated leaves or broad flat ones that are usually blanched.

Round 5: S L T R E I E D A

C1: LARDIEST (8)
C2: DETAILS (7)
DC: READIEST (8) STEADIER (8) REALISED (8)
OT: ATELIERS (8) EARLIEST (8) RELISTED (8) RETAILED (8) SERIATED (8) SIDEREAL (8) TREADLES (8)
Score: 29–10 (max 39)

Loadsa loadsa 8's (I must admit I was certain I was missing an obvious 9 there..........), but Joe can't see one, so Anne extends her lead further.

An ATELIER is a workshop or studio, especially of an artist, artisan, or designer.

Round 6: 100, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10. Target: 810.

C1: 810. ((5 + 4) x 100) - (9 x 10) (10)
C2: 810. ((5 + 3) x 100) + 10 (10)
Score: 39–20 (max 49)

2 different ways to get 810, but 2 lots of 10 points. :)

Mark talks about his work in maintaining the Olympic legacy through the charity, SwimBritain.

Round 7: S X R P O U O E T

C1: POUTERS (7)
C2: POUTERS (7)
OT: EXPORTS (7) PETROUS (7) POOREST (7) POSTURE (7) PROTEUS (7) SPOUTER (7) TROUPES (7) UPROOTS (7)
Score: 46–27 (max 56)

Plenty of 7's around in this flat round. 8-)

PETROUS is an adjective meaning noting or pertaining to the hard dense portion of the temporal bone, containing the internal auditory organs.
A PROTEUS is a person or thing that readily changes appearance, character, principles, etc.

Round 8: I E U P N G D E J

C1: DEEP (4)
C2: PEEING (6)
DC: DUPING (6) PINGED (6)
OT: DENGUE (6) GUINEP (6) PEINED (6) UNIPED (6)
Score: 46–33 (max 62)

Joe's rude 6 isn't really that rude, but its got him back in with a shout, with Anne struggling in the deep.

Round 9: 50, 6, 5, 8, 3, 9. Target: 713.

C1: -
C2: 714. ((9 + 5) x 50) + 8 + 6 (7)
RR: 713. (((50 x 3) - 8) x 5) + 9 - 6 (10)
Score: 46–40 (max 72)

A tricky little one large again, and while Anne completely blanks out, Joe's one away sees him cut the gap down to 6 points, while Rachel solves it, like we've come to expect her to do. :D

Teatime teaser: SOUNDJAR -> ADJOURNS

Round 10: A T E C R S V I M

C1: CATERS (6)
C2: MATERS (6)
DC: STRIVE (6) MATIER (6) RACIEST (7)
OT: MATRICES (8)
Score: 52–46 (max 80)

A pair of 6's for the contestants, but DC only find one 7, and shockingly miss the darrenic 8 :!: :!:

Round 11: R D T G I A O A T

C1: ADROIT (6)
C2: TRIAD (5)
DC: AGITATOR (8)
Score: 58–46 (max 88)

Anne's lead is doubled thanks to her ADROIT offering, but DC make up for missing MATRICES by hitting the jackpot with their AGITATOR. :geek: :ugeek:

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about Oxford Dictionary Online, which in case you haven't read, will be the show's new dictionary from the next series in January. 8-)

Round 12: G S H O E M D U Q

C1: HOMES (5)
C2: MOSHED (6)
DC: GUMSHOE (7)
OT: SOUGHED (7)
Score: 58–52 (max 95)

But, Joe immediately negates that 6 with one of his own. A very nice 7 spotted by DC too. :D

Round 13: B M R N E O I E C

C1: INCOMER (7)
C2: BROMINE (7)
DC: RECOMBINE (18)
Score: 65–59 (max 113)

Two very nice 7's, but full marks to DC for spotting the 9 last seen on the début show of the Series 65 champion. Wonder whatever happened to him :?: :?: :P :P

Round 14: 75, 9, 6, 2, 6, 4. Target: 328.

C1: 330.
C2: 327. (75 x 4) + (6 x 6) - 9 (7)
RR: 328. (9 - 2 + 75) x 4 (10)
Score: 65–66 (max 123)

Another interesting turn of events, as Joe takes the lead again with his 1 away, meaning we have a crucial conundrum. 8-) 8-)

Round 15: V A N P E R S I O

C2 buzzes on 5.5 seconds to say RESPONSIVE which is incorrect.
C1 buzzes on 16.75 seconds to say PERVERSION which is incorrect.
The answer was PERVASION.
Final Score: 65–66 (max 133)

WOAH! WOAH!! WOAH!!! It's a double negative, but it's a positive for Joe, as he wins by a point, although I bet his heart was in his mouth, when Anne buzzed in with her answer.

So, Joe, after being behind for the majority of the match manages to make a minor miracle in coming back from the dead to win by a single point, but I think he might need to up his game tomorrow when he takes on the Apterite, Alan Young. :)

I'll be back with that tomorrow, so until then, bye bye. ;) :) :D  8-)
