Re: Bug reports

I got round the bug in the third numbers game by typing the calculation out in full in the box (using brackets )

It wasn't a Mac problem, although it was a problem caused by my switch to developing on a Mac. (So much for "write once, run anywhere".) Fixed now.Matt Morrison wrote:Adam Gillard wrote:Here's a screengrab of what I see when I log in.
Are you on a Mac?Adam Gillard wrote:Charlie, you may recall I had a problem a few months ago with round windows not popping up. Well today it's come back. Below is the Java console data for a numbers round that didn't pop up in the game between myself and Scott Gillies (c. 11.27pm). There's some lobby chat in there too but I included it all because I don't know which bits you need. This has happened in letters rounds too (and probably could in conundrum rounds).
I find this happens quite often on my MacBook, but there's no error in the console, and I usually find eventually that the window did appear, but underneath/behind/minimized or something else stupid like that.Adam Gillard wrote:Yes I am on a Mac. Here's the data for a subsequent letters round in the same game that didn't pop up.
The only thing I've changed in the client for weeks is fixing the multiply/divide symbols. More likely something else has changed on your Mac. Did Apple release a new version of Java recently? I don't pay much attention.Adam Gillard wrote:But it hasn't happened for months. Literally not once. Then suddenly twice in 15-round games. Are you sure you didn't change something that might be related? Because otherwise I won't be able to play many fair games where my opponent doesn't feel guilty about beating me. When it's my pick I just log out and in, but when it's their pick I just lose the round if I don't log out within 30-odd seconds.
Well I did a manual software update check the other day and it said there were no new updates. I certainly can't recall any Java updates recently. I'll just have to hope that it will fix itself - maybe today's problems were anomalous.Charlie Reams wrote:The only thing I've changed in the client for weeks is fixing the multiply/divide symbols. Cheers. The exclusion feature was quite a recent addition and a lot of older code doesn't check for it. I tried to catch them but there's probably plenty that I missed, so please report them as you spot them.Kirk Bevins wrote:Not sure if Kieran Child's max game of 0 should be on here: http://www.apterous.org/viewformat.php?format=140
Yes it says it's been excluded like a naughty schoolchild but it still appears on that page and also this one.
What is this, Play School?*Adam Gillard wrote:Charlie, you may recall I had a problem a few months ago with round windows not popping up.
I've heard of Play School, but being under 30 I had to look up the round windows thing and stumbled upon this very brief clipIan Volante wrote:What is this, Play School?*Adam Gillard wrote:Charlie, you may recall I had a problem a few months ago with round windows not popping up.

I never thought to point them out before but I've had some similar rounds. Will have to try and remember them.Chris Davies wrote:Hardly a big deal, but I didn't get a soapy mouth for this round!
Yes, please do report these. Mind you, pretty much everything is a rude word for me. You ought to get one for BESTRIDE and SMOOGED and stuff.
Have you tried this?Liam Tiernan wrote:Hi C harlie. Still unable to load the game on this computer. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Java, Firefox & IE, and clearing the Java cache as you suggested.

Strictly speaking, I believe the rule is that plurals formed by adding an -S aren't allowed...Dinos Sfyris wrote:I just had the plural PRODIGIES as a conundrum in this game http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?ke ... 5254428662
Unless plurals have been allowed as conundrums for nasty nums 15 rounders i wonder how this one got through the net...
They have.Dinos Sfyris wrote:Unless plurals have been allowed as conundrums for nasty nums 15 rounders
After this change was made, I became eligible for Diamond difficulty conundrums. (In fact, I got faced with quite a lot of them.)Improved: Slightly increased the conundrum difficulty cap for most players, since not enough people were enjoying the delights of 10/10 conundrums.
Yeah, I reverted the change. I'm not sure what went wrong but it seemed suddenly everyone was facing diamonds all the time and that's a more significant problem in terms of discouraging newbies. I may revisit this at some point.Matt Bayfield wrote:Has the conundrum difficulty cap somehow reverted to the old system? Or could it be just because you've re-set most or all of the Diamond difficulty conundrums to a difficulty of 1, in order to get more data?
Clearly, if it's the latter, there is no problem/bug.
Oops, the change of year confused it a bit. SB4U.Adam Gillard wrote:From the history series - Dec 2008: "This month, apterous gained 43 new users, taking us to 170 in total."

Feb 2009: "This month, apterous gained 69 new users, taking us to 1133 in total."
The numbers seem to have gone wrong for Jan 2009 and have affected Feb too.
It's not about uncluttering foreign pencils Lesley - it's because the "can you work out the 9?" game would be spoiled if the pencil was revealed at the same time.Lesley Hines wrote:When someone's playing in a foreign language chat reports (e.g. 'cos this happened loads today) "Karen Pearson got a pencil for something" and then didn't give us the opportunity to guess it. Thanks
Hi Lesley. I've only just realised you asked me about it. Sorry for ignoring you! Yeah, that's how he spells it now, he had it changed by deed poll a few years back.Ian Volante wrote:A very minor one, but when choosing classic games, Harshan Lamabadusuriya's name appears with an html tag in it for some reason.
I knew that foreign 9s weren't part of the find-the-9 game any more, so I thought it would be good to be able to see what the pencils were forMatt Morrison wrote:It's not about uncluttering foreign pencils Lesley - it's because the "can you work out the 9?" game would be spoiled if the pencil was revealed at the same time.Lesley Hines wrote:When someone's playing in a foreign language chat reports (e.g. 'cos this happened loads today) "Karen Pearson got a pencil for something" and then didn't give us the opportunity to guess it. Of course, you're subsequently not seeing the "can you work out the 9?" game (presumably) as you don't have the language in question ticked, which is where the confusion comes from.
Most obvious solution would be for Charlie to hide pencil announcements along with the already-hidden 9 games for languages you don't have selected.
That should scare a few of the kids then!Lesley Hines wrote: Karen's first full-frontal - fair play![]()

Slippers have notoriously long been broken. I think somewhere when Charlie started these item pages he said something to the effect of "so now you can all finally see just how broken slippers are". NSB4U!Adam Gillard wrote:According to this page, "The pair of slippers is awarded for your 1st, 10th, 100th, 1000th... game." This German 9 game appears in the German 9 page under "lowest max". The reason the max was so low was a bug that caused the German dictionary used by apterous to be reduced only to words beginning with A.Charlie Reams wrote:Cheers. According to the time, no you didn't. You were 0.6 seconds too late to find that starting key.Karen Pearson wrote:Hi.
On today's Duel it was maxes only Goatdown. I got one of the conundrums (Round 12) before the last letter was revealed and, although I was correct, it didn't give me the point. And, believe me, I need any extra points I can get.
