Looks like it's been changed with the addition of Unlimited Jr.

I usually do a customised practice game before the duel, but I tried a few times today and kept getting the error message:

java.lang.illegalArgumentException: wrong parent for CardLayout

I'm currently doing a non-customised Speedgoat with Prune that seems to be working.

Dutch Hyper Unlimited seems to be broken at the moment. Sponge and I are declaring words which should be valid, but they're all being marked invalid. Some valid words are offered by Dictionary Corner but it appears that only a small subset of the full dictionary is being used.

I don't know if this is a problem specific to Ducth Hyper Unlimited or just Dutch in general.

When you're looking at a game recap and you click the << to see a previous game, it puts a 0 at the end of the url, resulting in the message "No such game or bad query. Probably a bug or summat."

Doesn't effect the >>.

I'd appreciate if you could poke around with this a bit, since me no speakie Dutch and therefore I can't tell what's up. If you determine whether all Dutch games are broken or just Unlimited, that would really help.

Think this is a bug. On the homepage, the Top Dog best 10 games, I show on there with a 91% (but it was yesterday's conundrums one) whereas all the others top dogs are today's letters (as it should be).

Why should they be today's? It only says "lately". Who knows what that might mean.

I think it's last 24 hours or summat, Kirk, you should disappear within the hour (so to speak).

Thanks, Jim. A sensible answer.

Yes, Jon, I knew that but when all the others I checked were letters games I thought it was odd.

Charlie, it seems to be all Dutch games which are broken. I have no idea what lexicon it's using, but it's not the normal Dutch lexicon - witness this game and this game where Sponge is unable to declare a valid word. It seems that the only words which are being counted as valid are words which also appear in other languages, e.g. English words, or French words. Any ideas what's up?

Also on the subject of Dutch, the table on the "pencils by language and length" Statland page needs extending to 26 letters. ;-)

Upon hovering over the conundrum RATTLIEST to see its hardness rating, I was surprised to find it listed as a 10 - a bug or error, perhaps? (I'd also noticed an earlier game of mine listed EARTHWORK as a 10, so it may be more likely to be the former than the latter.)

Neither, as far as I can tell. Twenty-one humans have faced it and only four of them have solved it at the first attempt, most of whom have a fairly high rating. Seems quite reasonable to put it in the hardest 900.
(I'd also noticed an earlier game of mine listed EARTHWORK as a 10, so it may be more likely to be the former than the latter.)
EARTHWORK had too many appearances for me to count through, but at a glance it looks like it's mostly unsolved except by people who've seen it before.

The complaints I was more expecting are the small number of very difficult ones rated at 1. This is a deliberate tactic to get more data for some of the conundrums we didn't have enough for.

I had the same thing last night, but after playing a few more games then resuming the Touch Jnr. game, the conundrum appeared as normal.

Could this be something to do with there being such a small amount of conundrums valid for Touch Jnr. combined with the new rule that a user shouldn't see the same conundrum twice within x amount of time? Perhaps the game gets stuck in a loop choosing a conundrum, then ruling it out as the player saw it yesterday, so choosing another one, then ruling that out, etc. etc.

When a duel game was nominated for game of the week, the happenings section mentioned the nomination, and also the score of the game. This was a duel game which should have been private to me because I had not done that duel yet. So basically, people nominating duel games can give away some of the duel scores to other who have not done the duel yet.

This may already be a known issue/bug/deliberate design, but to echo the point made by Ian/Gavin, various pages of statistics don't appear to have been updated for a very long time. For example, not much (if anything) on Superstats appears to have been updated for a week or two, and the German 15 statistics page doesn't yet show the new format record which was set on 22 May. Pro Ranks are also lagging a week behind.

I don't want apterous to slow to a crawl (don't know if regular updating causes that, but could imagine it might) but it would be nice to have these stats pages updated at least once weekly, if it's possible.

On a similar note, after you made the loading of the home page much faster a few months ago, it's got back to how slow it was for me nowadays. Is this fixable? Not sure, but it might be correlated with the apparent recent return of lag (which was wonderfully absent through most of the Spring!)

Perhaps the fact this still is happening implies it's a tough one to fix, but this just happened to me too. Fortunately it was only a few rounds, but having to re-enter an invalid word in a round was super-painful, especially when the rest of it went so well :(

"Henry Meier and Stuart Arnot got an nine from LSOARISEM; can you spot it?"
"Chris Davies is playing Apterous Prune in a Apterous World Cup."

Yeah, I noticed that a bit ago, but thought it was a one-off, so didn't bother mentioning it.

Andrew Feist wrote:So I finally got to see the "how to play" blurb when I played a Top Dog game just now, which is good. Part of the blurb was this:
Mr Dog: I couldn't give you a par score. You'll need to play a few more games before you can play Top Dog properly.
1618 games isn't enough?
Mr. Dog seems to be very inconsistent with me. I only see the spiel about half the time, and even then I don't seem to get given a par score, which is odd because I used to get them...

As awesome as it is to have an ambulance in my inventory, I shouldn't have gotten one after this round. I seem to remember reading about someone having this happen a while ago…so it's still happening.
