We'll all be able to make our own recaps, if we want to, Rhys.

So, you'll be able to do your own games, and everyone else can do theirs. 8-)

Really odd tactic of picking 6 small here by you as if I'd have got it your chance of beating me would be gone. Also your conundrums spot was 0 seconds, not 1. You buzzed instantly and then I buzzed just after you but I then wrote my answer down but you continued to pretend to write/write and kept looking at the screen - why keep looking at the screen after you've buzzed? Secondly, why after I buzzed did you buzz again and then write it down. It was pretty clear you Hansforded it and didn't actually have it but I wasn't gonna argue. It might sound like I'm a bad loser here but it's really not that - I find that sort of stuff cheating which riles me. It happened with you v Conor too and I didn't like it. I think the conundrum INJUSTICE was very apt.

Oh it will stay with me - and I hope to get my revenge sometime in a 15 rounder at another CO-event, 7 maxes from me (and missing all 3 numbers) is truly unforgivable.

Round 1: L T S E E E T I L

C1: TELLIES (7)
C2: littles
Score: 7–0 (max 7)

Bad miss from me to start with as I go 7-0 down. To be safe against Conor now I need to win 3 more letters rounds (excluding 9s) to be more than 10 ahead. Unlikely with only 8 rounds left and playing one of the best players in the game.

C2: 986. (25x(7+6)+4)x3-1 (10)

A sexy solution (if I say so myself) puts me ahead - phew...

Round 5: T R S A U O T N I

C1: STRONTIA (8)
C2: RAINOUTS (8)
OT: NATURIST (8) TITANOUS (8)
Score: 29–32 (max 39)

I was hoping the last vowel would be an A for ASTRONAUT. Conor said he may not have seen that and I'm agonising over what could have been.

Round 6: R S V I E A W U A

C1: WAIVERS (7)
C2: AIRWAVES (8)
Score: 29–40 (max 47)

Conor seems pretty annoyed to miss the 8 as I have an 11 point lead now - that's always a nice number in Countdown.

Round 7: Y J P E I E D N Z

C1: PINED (5)
C2: PINED (5)
OT: PEINED (6)
Score: 34–45 (max 53)

Just need this numbers now and I'm home and dry.

Round 8: 25, 8, 2, 10, 9, 6. Target: 687.

C1: -
C2: 685. (9x6/2)x25+10 (7)
RR: 687. 9x8x10-25-2-6 (10)
Score: 34–52 (max 63)

This numbers game was harder than it looked but luckily Conor messed up completely so I scrape over the line. I got it just out of time too.

Round 9: N I L S P H E R E

C1 buzzes on 2 seconds to say REPLENISH which is correct.
Final Score: 44–52 (max 73)

I've beaten Conor and I think it's 2-0 to me in head-to-heads in CO-events although I'm sure stattos will correct/update me if I'm wrong. Always hard over 9 rounds but I was over the moon to win this after being 7-0 down. Thank God for the numbers!

Anna amusingly suggests that SAUSAGED^ should be a word as she got sausaged last night, or something.... :P
Oh, and Karen took the mickey out of my pathetic pronunciation of the word which I have never used in a sentence, nor do I intend to.

Sorry! But James had just pronounced it the same way as you so, hopefully, I was able to educate both of you.

Well I've forgotten how to pronounce it now anyway so not really but I know I should expect to be shot down next time I offer it in front of someone in the know! :P

Again, this was a tricky game, but the letters weren't that favouring towards me, meaning that Stewart was always in touch. And my mistake on not seeing the obvious 248, or even the solution for that matter, gave me unnecessary pressure on the conundrum, but at I pulled through, as Stewart was literally half a second behind.

I knew this was possible as after a few seconds you slammed your pen down, picked up your water and smugly sipped. It put me right off as I was struggling to get it and I think you distracted Karen too. Poor form.

In hindsight, not my finest hour. I think it was the fact that I actually got a 4 large that I could do! And the fact that the ice in the jug made it louder as I tipped the water into my glass didn't help much either.

So, here are my quarter-final, semi-final and 3rd place play-off matches.

After the first round of matches, I was #3 seed, due to play the #6 seed in the quarter-finals, a certain Mr. K. Bevins, but because Jeff didn't want duplicate matches, that didn't happen.

So, by virtue of a coin toss, I played #5 seed, Mark Tournoff, leaving Kirk to play #4 seed, Ryan Taylor. (Tough luck, mate.  )

Unsurprisingly, it was a very tough game against a former champion of the show. But, to my surprise, I managed to win it on the numbers games. I say surprise, because Mark was on top form in the numbers earlier in the day, and I was nowhere near on good form on the numeric side. So, onto the semis I go. :D

Well, Matt was cetainly up for revenge after our epic encounter at Co:Lon. I knew it would be tricky, but after the first numbers, pressure just got to me completely, especially after we both missed RAINOUTS. Not taking anything away from Matt, who was definitely the better player on the day and deserved his place in the final.

So, I was up against Conor in the 3rd place play-off. I knew my chances were slim, but I could possibly get a result if Conor slipped up. And luckily for me, he had 2 early slip-ups. He decided not to risk GAUDILY in round 2 and he clearly had 562 in the first numbers, but forgot how he did it, so I took a fortunate lead early on, which I managed to keep despite being too slow in the first conundrum, and luckily I was just ahead in the 2nd conuindrum to wrap up another famous win.

So, I finished in 3rd place in only my 2nd CO-event, and it was only when Kirk said I'd beaten 2 series champions on the train back did I realise that I'd beaten all 3 series champions who were there that day. 8-)

But, it was a brilliant 2 days down in Leicester. Ranging from having dinner with Martin Bishop on the first night (no joke, and the waitress kept thinking that we were a couple as well :!:   ) to sharing a train back up north with Dinos and Kirk.

So can't wait for next year's CO-events. ;) :) :D  8-)

Change this to 1 second or less. You buzzed instantly as I kept a close eye on you. You then proceeded to look at the screen and not write anything. I wasn't a happy bunny even sat in Dictionary Corner.

I didn't think I buzzed in instantly, although in fairness, I wasn't paying much attention to the clock. I'll drop it to 1.5, because it was certainly not sub-1 second.

It's interesting that you claim that I resorted to cheating in my 2 most important games. Bad form, Kirk. :x

Thanks for those recaps James and glad you enjoyed your stay in Leicester.

Can I ask both you and Kirk not to turn this thread into a tit-for-tat please - mainly because what you're discussing should've been sorted at the time, but also because what's being alleged cannot go unnoticed at CoLin and I know we're all looking forward to a potential rematch there!
