Round 1: P R I T A D E S D

C1: PARTIED (7)
C2: TRAIPSED (8)
DC: DISRATED (8)
Score: 0–8 (max 8)

A good start by our challenger, as DC find the only other 8 in the mix.

Round 2: W V S O A E M Y I

C1: MOVIES (6)
C2: MOVIES (6)
DC: WAIVES (6)
OT: SOMEWAY (7)
Score: 6–14 (max 15)

I was happy with MIAOWS, but it'll go SOMEWAY to beating that darrenic 7.

Round 3: M N U C A S I G O

C1: CAUSING (7)
C2: CAUSING (7)
DC: COAMINGS (8)
OT: MANICOUS (8)
Score: 13–21 (max 23)

Round 4: X R S E I E Z R I

C1: SEXIER (6)
C2: RESIZE (6)
DC: SEIZE (5) SEIZER (6)
OT: SIRREE (6)
Score: 19–27 (max 29)

SIRREE is an informal term for Sir.

Round 5: 100, 50, 4, 3, 1, 5. Target: 508.

C1: 508. (5 x 100) + 4 + 3 + 1 (10)
C2: 508. (5 x 100) + 4 + 3 + 1 (10)
Score: 29–37 (max 39)

Jon talks about talking foreign languages while on holidays, and how people should learn languages of other countries.

Teatime teaser: NOACTORS -> CARTOONS

Round 6: M H T E I R O E G

C1: MOTHER (6)
C2: MOTHIER (7)
DC: THEOREM (7)
Score: 29–44 (max 46)

Another good 7 by Scott the Scot, sees his lead extend to 15.

Round 7: R G A R E N L A R

C1: ARRANGER (8)
C2: ARRANGE (7)
Score: 37–44 (max 54)

But, a simple letter suffix by the champ sees the gap shrink down to 7.

Round 8: N T L I O N E A F

C1: INFLATE (7)
C2: ENATION (7)
DC: ELATION (7) TOENAIL (7)
OT: FOLIATE (7) FONTINA (7) INFANTE (7)
Score: 44–51 (max 61)

FONTINA is a type of Italian cheese, semisoft to firm, made of cow's or sheep's milk.

Round 9: V P E R U F E H B

C1: HERE (4)
C2: BURPEE (6)
DC: RUPEE (5) BREVE (5)
Score: 44–57 (max 67)

Scott has clearly been exercising his brain (prbably by not doing BURPEEs), as even DC are beaten that time.

Susie's Origins Of Words carries on with the military theme with the origin of "tanker", which led to "tank".

Round 10: 50, 9, 9, 4, 3, 10. Target: 330.

C1: 330. (50 - (9 + 9) + 4 - 3) x 10 (10)
C2: 330. (50 x 9) - (4 x 3 x 10) (10)
Score: 54–67 (max 77)

Teatime teaser: TINADUNG -> DAUNTING

Round 11: D S U L E T O W A

C1: outdeals
C2: OUTLAWED (8)
Score: 54–75 (max 85)

Another darren by the challenger and Dominic could be travers-ing out of here shortly.

Round 12: S L O E A D N U G

C1: LOUNGES (7)
C2: LOUNGES (7)
DC: DANGLES (7) DONGLES (7)
OT: ANGELUS (7) LANGUES (7) LEGUANS (7) GLANDES (7) SLANGED (7) GULDENS (7) LANGUED (7) LOUDENS (7) NODULES (7) LOUNGED (7) UNLADES (7) UNLOADS (7)
Score: 61–82 (max 92)

No SLOGANED, just loads of 7's.

An ANGELUS is a devotional prayer at morning, noon, and night to commemorate the Annunciation in the Roman Catholic church.
A LANGUE is the linguistic system shared by the members of a French community.
GLANDES (plural of GLANS) are the head of the penis or clitoris.
GULDENS are an alternative name of the GUILDER, the former unit of currency in the Netherlands.
To UNLADE is to discharge a load of cargo.

Round 13: T K I S E L O B S

C1: SLOBS (5)
C2: BLOKES (6)
DC: OBELISKS (8)
Score: 61–88 (max 100)

The game is sealed as everyone, bar DC seems to have a bit of an off round.

Round 14: 100, 8, 10, 1, 5, 6. Target: 132.

C1: 132. (5 x 6) + 10 - 8 + 100 (10)
C2: 132. ((5 - 1) x 8) + 100 (10)
Score: 71–98 (max 110)

3 simple numbers games today, leaving Rachel virtually redundant in the mathematics department today.

Round 15: D A R T V E N U E

C2 buzzes on 12.5 seconds to say ADVENTURE which is correct.
Score: 71–108 (max 120)

And a brilliant performance by Scott today. Unfortunately, there are now just 4 prelims left until the finals start a week today, so should Scott continue winning, he'll have to continue in the next series.

I'll be back next week with the last prelim of the series, followed by the first quarter-final, which will be #1 Seed Oliver Garner vs. #8 Seed Claudia Tyson.

So, until next week, bye bye.
