Right, here it is. Enjoy.

Countdown recap for Thursday 27 May 2010.

C1: Champion James Saker (1 win, 67 points.) From Lincolnshire. He works as a Network Rail signaller at London King's Cross station.
C2: Challenger Dominic Travers. An Apterite from New Maldon, Surrey. He's currently studying biology at the University Of Bristol. He plays the trumpet, piano and guitar. He was advised to appear to come on the show by Sir Terry Wogan, after appearing on Wogan's Perfect Recall. 8-) His ambition is to study medicine and become a doctor, although as Jeff suggests, spending three-quarters of an hour with Dr. Phil Hammond, might change his mind.
DC: Susie Dent and Dr. Phil Hammond.
RR: Rachel Riley, who while writing this, have just seen on the BBC Three show England's Worst Ever Football Team. 8-)
OT: Other words or solutions.

Round 1: G H M I E O X E T

C1: EXIT (4)
C2: MIGHT (5)
DC: MOXIE (5)
OT: EIGHT (5) EMOTE (5) GOETH (5) HOMIE (5) METHI (5) METHO (5) THEME (5)
Score: 0–5 (max 5)

Our challenger gets off to a good start, as James misses one of an collection of 5's.

Round 2: B F A L I S E L R

C1: ballers
C2: flailers
DC: FIREBALLS (18)
Score: 0–5 (max 23)

Complete DC whitewash here, as both contestants' declarations are no-gos. Interestingly that's the 3rd time this series that flailers has been disallowed this series. Surely, people will remember now that it's not a word :!: :x

On another note, that is probably the best 9 I've seen on the show for a good while. ;) :) :D  8-)

Round 3: I E P M G N P O A

C1: MAPPING (7)
C2: MAPPING (7)
DC: MOPPING (7) GENIPAPO (8)
Score: 7–12 (max 31)

There's me being happy with myself for getting GENIPAP :!:

Round 4: N P I S O H E T R

C1: STONIER (7)
C2: THRONES (7)
DC: HORNIEST (8)
OT: PHONIEST (8) POINTERS (8) PROTEINS (8) REPOINTS (8) TROPHIES (8)
Score: 14–19 (max 39)

Loads of 8's missed by the contestants there, but Dominic still has a small lead going into the 1st numbers game.

Round 5: 100, 25, 75, 50, 4, 3. Target: 644.

C1: 647. ((4 + 3) x 100) - 50 - (75 / 25) (7)
C2: 647. ((4 + 3) x 100) - 50 - (75 / 25) (7)
OT: 644. ((75 x 4) + 25 - 3) x (100 / 50) (10)
Score: 21–26 (max 49)

A tricky 4 large that even Rachel can't solve.

Dr. Phil talks about his early days as a practicing surgeon, when he experimented on patients. :o

Teatime teaser: PAULLEFT -> PLATEFUL

Round 6: S N A C E L O R V

C1: SNARL (5)
C2: ORACLES (7)
DC: ALCOVES (7) LOVERS (6) VERONAL (7)
OT: OVERSCAN (8)
Score: 21–33 (max 57)

Round 7: D G S U E A Q S O

C1: GASSED (6)
C2: DOSAGES (7)
DC: DEGAUSS (7)
OT: GASEOUS (7)
Score: 21–40 (max 64)

Dominic two 7's extend his lead further in this one.

Round 8: D C I S E R A J C

C1: SCARED (6)
C2: RAISED (6)
DC: CARDIES (7) SIDECAR (7)
OT: RADICES (7) CARICES (7)
Score: 27–46 (max 71)

Round 9: V T Y M U I E A P

C1: PIETY (5)
C2: MATEY (5)
DC: IMPUTE (6)
OT: UPTIME (6)
Score: 32–51 (max 77)

Round 10: 25, 100, 4, 3, 9, 8. Target: 715.

C1: 716. (100 x (4 + 3)) + 25 - 9 (7)
C2: 716. (100 x (4 + 3)) + 25 - 9 (7)
RR: 715. (((25 x 4) + 3) x 8) - 9 - 100 (10)
Score: 39–58 (max 87)

Susie's Origin Of Words continues the pub theme with the origin of "The Nag's Head".

Teatime teaser: PURESUMS -> RUMPUSES

Round 11: W N O A E K L R U

C1: WALKER (6)
C2: WALKER (6)
DC: LANKER (6)
OT: AWOKEN (6) KNAWEL (6) KNOWER (6) KORUNA (6) LOANER (6) LUNKER (6) NEURAL (6) UNREAL (6) RANKLE (6) WANKER (6)
Score: 45–64 (max 93)

What a cowardly bunch of W****Rs! Or are they? Inside sources say that W****R was cut out after being declared by Dominic. So I suppose, keeping face did no harm, as there were plenty of 6's, with a few red faces all round.

A KNAWEL is any of several plants belonging to the genus Scleranthus, of the pink family, native to Eurasia, esp. S. annuus, a common, low-growing weed that forms dense mats.
LUNKER means something unusually large for its kind. :?: :?

Round 12: F B A N E L I N T

C1: INFANT (6)
C2: libate
DC: INFANTE (7)
OT: INFLATE (7)
Score: 51–64 (max 100)

Unfortunately, there's no verb from LIBATION, so James claws back some ground here.

Round 13: S D A E R M U E R

C1: DREAMERS (8)
C2: DREAMERS (8)
DC: EARDRUMS (8) MEASURED (8)
OT: MEASURER (8)
Score: 59–72 (max 108)

8's all round mean that the game is still in the balance heading into the last numbers.

Round 14: 75, 100, 2, 1, 9, 6. Target: 468.

C1: 459.
C2: 468. (75 x 6) + (9 x 2) (10)
Score: 59–82 (max 118)

But, Dominic seals the win with by far the easiest numbers game of the day. Well, not for James though.....

Round 15: U N D E R T E S T

No one buzzes. The answer was ENTRUSTED.
Score: 59–82 (max 128)

A very tough conundrum again. That's now 5 days in a row with the conundrum going unsolved.

But, anyhow, Dominic is now the new champ, can he crack into the top 8 before it's too late :?: By the time of my next recap, we might have a better idea of the final line-up for the finals, whih are just 2 weeks away.

So, till next week, bye bye.

Considered OVERSCAN , but didn't even bother to check it on Lexplorer because it seemed so unlikely. Can't really call that a spot, eh?

Are you sure, Scott :?: If it was in, it would've been mentioned in the OT words.

Are you sure you weren't looking in the Scrabble dictionary :?:
