Who's going finals?

Post by Charlie Reams »

The finals of the current series will be filmed on 27 - 28 April. I'll be there (hopefully)... anyone else?

Scott Gillies might be there as well since he starts his run something like 4 games before the finals. I couldn't see Scott on the members list so thought I'd say this for him.

I'd have thought that all the tickets would've been sold by now, after all it's just 2 weeks away.

I'd like to come, but I'm busy, so as much as I'd like to come, it doesn't look like I can. Oh well.

I won't be there because of work. So I am missing the finals AND Co:Lon because of work.

WHAT! Extra paper rounds are making you miss the finals and CO:LON :!: :?: :?

You must have a lot of houses that need papers delivering in your area.

If i make it two in a row i might start feeling bad if i miss one so i'll probably skip this one to take the pressure off. Would actually prefer to go to co:lon instead and still might, even if only to watch.

I'll be there from start to finish. Looking forward to seeing everyone again especially since I won't be at COLON. Any takers on how many conundrums I'll get this time?

I'll have £500 that says you don't get any of them.

Of course, if you refuse, you'll probably get 4 or 5, but if you accept, you'll most definitely not get any of them, along with the rest of the UK.

Just thinking about the conundrums - I know you say that CofCs and the like are not viewer-friendly because they can't compete, but isn't having obscure conundrums that people haven't even heard of adding to the problem? You can still have words that people have heard of that probably won't be spotted in a fraction of a second (like EAVESDROP and SLEEPSUIT).

Right OK - you've said before that viewers are put off by Champion of champions tournaments, because it's several consecutive games where they get thrashed at home and can't compete with the contestants.

I imagine that impossibly hard conundrums (as in really obscure words rather than just good scrambles) would have a similar effect.

We've seen quite a few of this type of conundrum in the final stages of tournaments. Perhaps it would be better for the viewers not to have this type of conundrum. I imagine there were viewers at home that were pleased to beat Chris Wills and Graham Nash with the EAVESDROP, but maybe not so many got OUBLIETTE.

I think you're reading too much into the joke post with Dinos. Oubliette was for a C of C, so its to be expected that harder words will come up. The normal series finals conundrums are tougher yes, but nothing so out of the ordinary as to be considered impossible.

I'll be there from the afternoon of the 27th, but will have to leave before the final (and possibly the 2nd semi) so I can get home to see a special edition of the Weakest Link ;)

What might seem like an outlandish word to some might not be to others... I remember LEYLANDII baffling a lot of people on this forum but for some it's an everyday word. Same with OUBLIETTE... anyone with any familiarity with the film Labyrinth will know this word.

I think people at home are more likely to beat the uber-contestants on the more obscure CoC style conundrums than on normal conundrums anyway.

I trust they'll be the hardest batch yet then 8-) I always look forward to finals conundrums. The bizarrer the better IMO, and I'm sure like the rest of us the "normal" viewers at home get a sadistic kick out of watching the best players completely flummoxed, especially if it's coupled with a clever scramble like ELITEBOUT or ARTLEPOOL or what have you.

Me and Josh are going, along with some of our drongo mates.

I wanna sit next to Dinos to increase my chance of being seen in the audience when he gets the conundrums.

If anyone is still thinking about coming but thinks they may have left it too late, I received an email from Saralee on Thursday saying that tickets were still available for Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning, but not Wednesday afternoon unfortunately. Don't know if they are still available now, but it's worth getting in touch as you could still see some 1/4's and a semi.
