Spoilers For Thursday March 25th 2010
Another Thursday has arrived, coupled with a message of congratulation from Her Majesty, The Queen.
http://www.google.com/hostednews/ukpres ... 9Bibz5sMMQ
Nice that the show has got its royal confirmation approved.
Well, if you're reading this, Ma'am, we should have a delightful show today between 2 of your subjects. Dave Wilkinson of Coalville, is the champ looking to reach the half-octochamp status he desires. It is a title reached by 5 (6 if you include Jan, who had reached hers in the last series) people, although only 1 has converted that into a complete octochamp status.
Will the challenger stop him in his tracks, or will Mr. Wilkinson put him/her to the sword (Rubbish joke, if you can spot it. )
See you all for the recap, after I've had my roast swan.

Earlier in the week I noticed that during the credits they were referring to Friday's show as the 5000th episode.Marc Meakin wrote:Will the 5,000th edition get a plug today?

Some sources seem to suggest that today's EDITION (to please Damian) is the 5,000th.Howard Somerset wrote:Earlier in the week I noticed that during the credits they were referring to Friday's show as the 5000th episode.Marc Meakin wrote:Will the 5,000th edition get a plug today?
Whatever it is, it's making my head spin thinking about it.

'Edition' sounds odd to me when used for TV programmes. I always think of 'editions' as 'new versions', 'updates', and 'renewals', like with our beloved fucking dictionaries.
'Episode' sits far far better when you're talking about separate and exclusive portions of one thing, in this case Countdown.

Gregg Wallace is fucking great. I always liked him on Masterchef but I never expected him to be this good on the 'down.
He just seems ridiculously lovely and huggable.

Re: Spoilers For Thursday March 25th 2010
didn't see the second numbers that way, here's my boring and unnecessary split multiplication route:
75 x 5 = 375, +6 = 381, x2 = 762, +7 = 769
75 x 5 = 375, +6 = 381, x2 = 762, +7 = 769

Etymologically yes (exeunt being a plural noun in Latin) but exeunt is a verb in English, meaning to leave the stage. Same with agenda and many others.Clive Brooker wrote:Surely EXEUNTS is nonsense?

Yes, I see that, but surely "exits" is the word used when a single entity is leaving the stage, so "exeunts" has no reason to exist.Charlie Reams wrote:Etymologically yes (exeunt being a plural noun in Latin) but exeunt is a verb in English, meaning to leave the stage. Re: Spoilers For Thursday March 25th 2010
I see what you mean, but the way the ODE defines exeunt it's just a normal verb. That might be a mistake or it might actually have that use, I'm not sure.Clive Brooker wrote: Yes, I see that, but surely "exits" is the word used when a single entity is leaving the stage, so "exeunts" has no reason to exist.

Re: Spoilers For Thursday March 25th 2010
I'd have thought that 'exeunt' would have only been used as a verb in the imperative: I suppose a grammarian might have given the direction that 'the platoon exeunts', but I don't like it - 'exeunt the platoon' would be preferable.Charlie Reams wrote:I see what you mean, but the way the ODE defines exeunt it's just a normal verb.
