Spoilers For Friday February 5th 2010

Post by James Robinson »

Well, we have reached the end of the week, with a possible record attempt not happening following Jay's win yesterday, but can he become the next Apterite to reach the promised land of Octochampdom :?:

Yet again, this show does seem to be becoming more male, in terms of winners, especially as everyone who has won this series, with the exception of Jan Parker, is a man. How strange, or is it :?:

Still at least DC isn't completely male orientated, thanks to Susie's never-ending appearances, and having seen Kaye Adams in DC again this week, we've at least had the left half of the blue studio, seemingly pink.

So, will Jay be on for 3 in a row, or not :?:

We'll see...

Oh by the way, if Davy's reading this, it was 15:24:20 yesterday, not what you said. :x

Unlucky Phil, shame you messed those last numbers up.
Not a wise move letting Rachel choose them for you.

He definitely said OUTSTEER, unless he suddenly regressed to a former life as a Geordie. When Jeff misheard him he blatantly said yes, realising that OUTSTARE was much more likely.

Throw the cheating twat in a windowless cell with Thierry Henry and Pauline Huggins until they eat each other to death, I say.
If I suddenly have a squirming baby on my lap it probably means that I should start paying it some attention and stop wasting my time messing around on a Countdown forum

I heard OUTSTEER too. Phil therefore should have won so hope he is invited back on another show - Jay is discredited and therefore a huge disppointment to us all :x

Surely someone from the production team would have said something, if it was unambiguous.

Playing along at home I took a punt for OUTSTEER and thought at the time Jay had said OUTSTEER too, but then thought nothing of it when the other contestant showed him OUTSTARE and I just assumed Jay had said OUTSATRE instead. Going back over it on sky plus there is evidence to suggest he did say OUTSTEER but could easily have said OUTSTARE too. This is quite ironic gien my PASADO gaff. The only one who will ever know is Jay himself.

This, although I don't have anything against Henry so I'll put a tiger in instead. I dunno how people have the gall to sit there and cheat, knowing that it's gonna be seen on national TV.

Another 3rd numbers method would be (75+1)*6+7+8-100 = 371.

P.S. I also heard outsteer.

I didn't notice anything wrong at the time, but reviewing it on 4oD it definitely sounds like OUTSTEER.

I'd be cautious about jumping to conclusions. For one thing, unless someone here was in the studio we can't know whether we saw the full picture. Perhaps Jay had both OUTSTARE and OUTSTEER written down and was genuinely in doubt as to which one to use, so that what actually came out was ambiguous. Perhaps he then explained what had happened, and after some discussion it was accepted by everyone that he meant to say OUTSTARE and it was agreed to let it stand.

Even if that's way off the mark, any guilt is surely unproven.

We had a scoring problem in the gallery right on the point of the declarations in this round, so were not paying attention enough to differentiate between OUTSTARE and OUTSTEER. Having looked back at it, it DOES sound as though Jay says OUTSTEER, but it's obviously too late to check his paper now and we'll never know for sure. I can't imagine he'd deliberately try to pull a fast one, but just to cover all bases we're going to invite Phill to try again as a challenger in the next series.

Hooray!

I understand that you have to be diplomatic Damo, but Jay blatantly cheated. It was written all over his face - he knew full well what was going down, the cheating David Walliams look-a-like twat.

Once upon a time there was a s ;) hand called Horace. He worked on a s :) called the S.S. Wetbottom.
He was a bit annoying and he wasn't very good at working because he was basically a ;) py with a bad :) .
One day he was dragged off the s ;) and eaten whole by a :) po. The rest of the crew on board the s ;) shouted " :D !".

Have been on a little holiday in Snowdonia and Manchester so am just catching up with the last week or so of shows on 4oD. The selection in round 2 of this show was SPENLEAIB and both contestants declared 8s with PENALISE, but I was surprised that DC didn't spot the 9 that seemed to leap out of the selection - PLEBEIANS.

Glad you said that. I didn't watch this game but a friend of mine said his mother spotted that and I said I'd look out for it on the forum (not that I didn't believe him that it was there). And there it is.

OK, "leapt out" is perhaps an exaggeration, but certainly I saw PLEB straight away as those letters were there in sequence; and that immediately brought PLEBEIAN to mind which, as I fairly swiftly realised, was probably there in the selection along with its plural. Not having pen and paper to hand, I then spent most of the 30 seconds trying to visualise the word and convince myself I'd got the right spelling.
