Give Ben a break eh James?
It seems every time he starts a spoiler thread or something, you wade in trying to criticise him over some minor detail or something.

It's not a criticism, Jon. I was just pointing out that even though today's match between Chris & Innis is big, tomorrow's match will be bigger still, as it's for the series title.Jon Corby wrote:Give Ben a break eh James?

I cannot comment as, in the words of Charlie Reams :
Let me rephrase then. Please refrain from engaging in your hilarious fireman's banter with James in the future. Thanks!
Obviously if it was hilarious student, gradute or post graduate humour I could take part in the debate but I bow to the wishes of the humour police.

Great satire, only slightly undermined by the fact that Jon isn't any of those things (and I like how you hedged your bets to try to make me look snobbish in the broadest possible way!)Davy Affleck wrote:if it was hilarious student, gradute or post graduate humour

Davy, whether you realise it or not, a really high proportion of your recent posts are solely needling at James, and they don't really come across (to me) as harmless banter or 'mates razzing each other'.

Yeah we were all in the audience pant wettingly excited.
For the last game Chris and Innis sat together so I'm sure they could see how well each was playing and perhaps putting pressure on each other.
(Turns out I'm not going to see it 'live' now as I have to be at an agency at 2:30pm ...nooo)

An even less nice version of the 1st Numbers:
(9 x 2 x 10) - 6 + (10 - 8)
Innis is still on max at end of part 1 by the way.

Good idea, Andy! You might get the other punters into the show, particularly starting with an exciting finals game.Andy Wilson wrote:I've never done this before, but seeing as i don't have a telly and none of my mates who do are at home, i'm heading up to see if they have it on in the old pub up the road!
In the youth hostel, the lady who took me and I watched Countdown in the TV room, and while it was on a load of kids came in. It was increcible how quickly they all got involved in the show, and the competitive element of shouting out the longest answers they could over each other. Of course, this meant we couldn't play along anymore, but I just really enjoyed seeing how they got sucked in, and it made me think if only there was a way of getting people to be a captive audience for just one show to start, it would probably end up becoming so much more popular.

The Spoilers threads for big games are so boring now that you all go and watch every series final being filmed.
Its official: Everyone watching the finals being recorded live has killed the spoilers threads.

Re: Spoilers For Thursday December 17th 2009
Oh my.
Before the game I thought Chris might sneak it and I was convinced it would go to the crucial conundrum. But then after the last letters game I (and probably everyone else) thought Innis had it in the bag! I was rather surprised when Innis went with 2 large instead of just the 1, but saying that the 2 large game might have ended up being easy and the 1 large might have been tough.
Best game I have seen in my 18 months of watching the show.

In the studio I shocked myself and Howard who was sitting next to me in the studio by getting the word that Chris missed in the studio early on INTENSE which put him behind for several rounds in the studio.
But ironically of course this one miss made the game all the more intense because of the amazing comeback, in the studio.

Definitely THE best game in my time with the show, which covers over 3000 editions.
Gutted for Innis, but delighted for Chris. Never imagined he'd spot SLEEPSUIT so late on, it took some real unscrambling did that, and a lot of nerve to hold back from buzzing in early on for a wild guess. Well done to both of you, an absolute Countdown classic.

Brilliant, nerve wracking, unbelievably tense; and then the game started. Oh I was so nervous going into the conundrum, when Innis declared 654 I couldn't believe it. Chris looked deflated when missing SOLENOID and then when he got the numbers game he looked like he had gained a new life. EIDOLONS as an equaller. AMAZING!
Chris ftw tomorrow, sorry Andrew!

Wondered whether Chris has seen SLEEPSUIT and held on it for a few seconds or just buzzed straight away when he saw it.
I was uncertain of it, one I'd rationalise about for a moment before buzzing in with. Dunno if that's just because my mind is still mangled from Malaysia though where I would have struggled to confirm whether CAT and DOG were valid.

WOW, that was undoubtedly the best ending to a game I've ever seen. It should be nominated for an Oscar (or whatever the TV version is).
Well done to Chris and Innis for giving us a truly classic game. Can't wait for the final between Chris and Andrew. Good luck to you both. Hopefully you'll serve us up a similar treat.

Unbelievable. I knew the result beforehand (accidentally found out ) but had no idea it'd be so dramatic. Innis has to be one of the most likeable (and best) contestants ever, so gracious in defeat. Well played Chris; incredible fighting spirit.
