I was asked to put together a team for a previous series. The main problem I had was that you have to have six in your team including a reserve, who has to attend the recording but only gets to play if someone drops out at the last minute or is taken ill or whatever. Nobody wanted to be the reserve player (especially if it meant not getting a share of the money if we won).

I was part of a team that had an audition about 18 months ago. We were the best team at our Leeds audition, winning 3 rounds out of 6, but we never heard back.

Obviously teams can split the money however they like; I was just pointing out that a specific team might decide that being a reserve doesn't warrant getting an equal share.

I was putting together a team for Eggheads a few months ago. Our name was to be 'Lightning Wind - Knowledge of Ezekiel', but we only had 3 definite people and I never got round to applying. In general, my general knowledge is a lot better than my Countdown skills. If anyone here wants to put together a team and needs a head, I'd probably be interested.

I was flicking through the cable channels last night and got to Challenge and an old episode of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire was showing from 2004. In the seat was Pat Gibson. I joined it at £16,000 but he went on to win a million and didn't really need to use any lifelines to do so, but in the event went 50:50 and phoned a friend for the last question although he knew the answer from the outset. But the coincidence doesn't stop there - directly afterwards they looked for a new contestant with the 'fastest finger' round and who should be sat there smiling away - last year's Are You An Egghead? winner - Barry. For the record, he didn't get on and not only was he not the fastest finger but he got the answer wrong as he was not able to put Matthew, Mark, Luke & John in alphabetical order!

Interestingly, his opponent in the final is David Edwards, the first man to win a million on Millionaire. So, the new Eggheads line-up will contain 2 Millionaire winners, since Judith is already there.

I have never been on a quiz show, but under the extra pressure there, might you not automatically input them in the order which they are always said, even if you did hear the word "alphabetical"? Same thing for The Beatles, and other things which are always spoken in the same order.

That may be a factor; but, while I don't recall the episode in question, with FF questions like this it's normally the case that the answers are actually read out in the "usual" order, which helps to alert you to the fact that the correct order is unlikely to be A B C D.

Because during rehearsals they warn you that that's the most common mistake people make, and it's commonest of all on the easiest questions; people realise they know the answer straight away, bash the A B C & D keys in the right order and sit back feeling smug - completely forgetting to press the green LOCK key, which means no answer is registered.

So, despite being warned about it, when anyone gets a question wrong, it's more likely they've simply forgotten to lock it in? Or are you crediting this gentleman in particular with the necessary alphabetical skills, but somehow combined the inability to follow a simple instruction?

I think "it's possible that..." would have read better than "it's more likely that...". It looks like you're correcting someone without actually knowing any more about it yourself.

Judging by how many times I forget to prerss the enter button when playing speed rounds on Apterous, it seems more likely that Barry forgot to lock his answer, rather than him getting it wrong.But only Barry knows for sure.
