Spoilers for Thursday July 2nd

Post by Kirk Bevins »

TELECOM as an equaller in round 7.

I was pleased with my solution to 136 in round 14:

[75x50-100]/25 - 10.

I tried using this 146 rule in my 4 large game in my final but sadly failed. Would have been a nice way to end.

Hmm . . . just my luck - I finally get to start a Spoilers thread and the board crashes for an hour and wipes it out completely!

In fact it has wiped out ALL of the posts to every board posted after about 2pm on this site. Not good!
Unlike Innis, who was very good today, and made short work of another opponent.

IMAMATES in round 4.

Just thought I'd post that one again.

Really good episode today, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, and the spectacle of Matt Le Tissier solving a 4 large was classic :D

What was going on in the last few rounds? There seemed to be an edit while Rachel was putting up the letters for round 13 - it cut to a shot of Innis halfway through, then back to Rachel who was chuckling away at something. Then, in round 14, the audience laughed for no apparent reason when the target appeared.

Probably posted by someone and got wiped but in R13 if Jeff got BASELINE, you could have had BASELINER for 9.

Damn I missed this but had the darren IMAMATE at the last CONOT. I was the only player to get it I think.

BASELINER isn't in Malcolm.

Thanks Derek!

Mike was a fantastic guy, and a good player as well. Spoke to him for ages after the game.

Because it was low and hence easy. They were mistaken.

Yeah that was a bit off-putting

Congrats on the win again, Innis. Two more to go to be an Octochamp hopefully. 8-)

My wheat intolerance has been much better since I cut out seedy stuff.

Ah, I remember now. I managed to make a total mess of selecting letters in that round, by saying vowel when I meant consonant and then trying to correct myself, but ultimately just sounding incoherent and making everyone laugh. Mercifully they edited it out.

As for the numbers, what Kirk said. The audience assumed it would be dead easy.

Ah yes, I remember you making an absolute Horlicks of the pronunciation. :)

Back OT, nice going Innis, keep it up! :)

R11 NAPPES
R12 equaller RINSABLE

I'm enjoying your run so far, Innis. Quite apart from your casual brilliance, we've had you applauding yourself after Jeff's introduction, and subtle armpit-scratching the day before as Jeff spoke to you. Superb ... a real trumpeter, clearly.

You forgot to include the word "invalid" before "equaller". :|

Edit: Cripes, look at the time. Got to go and get nekkid in front of several hundred people. See y'all later.

Of course, you're right .... darn ... checked NAPPES with Apterous (as I thought it questionable), but just Chambers for RINSABLE^, as it seemed a familiar one (and was there). It's not in the OED, so wouldn't know how to interpret the Google hit "Deb Jizer Water Rinsable Machine Parts Degreaser" if I were relying on that source.

The Full Monty? If yes, I've played in the band for this about 40 times ... a cracking show. Erm, yes.

Indeed. Really good to hear a modern jazz/rock score that makes full use of a beefy horn section. (Which sounds like I'm being deliberately smutty but, on this occasion, no.) Had a great opening night - the looks (of mingled disbelief/delight/horror) on the faces of the audience at the end were a hoot. Just hope the weather gets a bit cooler now!

If only it was Goatdown. Was Innis fishing for a final E in Round 1? Would've been a great word to start the match with. 6 nice performances though Innis, looking good for Octochampdonship.

Ha, what an idiot your opponent must have been to only get a 4 from that.

As a tennis fan who is a week behind on Countdown because of Wimbledon, I'm really annoyed by this. That word is in such common usage, I wouldn't have thought to check it. If "serve-and-volleyer" is in, its natural enemy should be in too.
