I'm confused here. I saw OPALINE and I distinctly remember having had OPALINES disallowed on apterous. What's going on?tomrowell wrote:OPALINES is invalid on apterous, therefore it shouldnt be allowed on countdown

(Though admittedly the last incident was something like 2001 or 2002).
Edit to say that Gyles is at his absolute best when Susie's making him look like a total cock.

Barely - I didn't realise I was dyslexic and couldn't count until I went in front of the cameras. Fortunately this temporary condition disappeared soon after.
Unfortunately I am dayshift and watched it with my watch at work - send out for a saddle.

Hard luck today. I trust you enjoyed yourself anyway? The peccary incident was pretty funny i think. If only the show was filmed closer to the present there would have been an interesting talking point.

If I suddenly have a squirming baby on my lap it probably means that I should start paying it some attention and stop wasting my time messing around on a Countdown forum

Re: Spoilers for Tuesday 28th April
I suppose I'll explain. OPALINE is listed as noun, another term for milk-glass. Milk-glass, however, is listed as a mass noun and thus there has been a long debate as to whether OPALINES should be allowed or not and sometimes Susie has allowed it and sometimes she hasn't. A nice equaller in that round was SOLANINE.
NORIAS/ORISON for DC beaters in round 1 and SPAVINED in round 2 which Chris has already mentioned. Chris, you're pretty fucking relentless. It's time you went on the show and kicked ass out of all those records.

Suzie does seem rather uncomfortable when Gyles is speaking to her.
The word has already been mentioned but I was pleased with my DC-beating and favourite Countdown word ARIOSO in R1.

Re: Spoilers for Tuesday 28th April
My experience was much the same as Dominic's, who played the game before mine.
We met in the green room and while it was obvious we were both trying hard not to show that we were crapping ourselves.
Julie was "ice cool" - whether by nature or the fact she had an appearance under her belt.
Hamish was Hamish.
Me, my wife, & my sister and her husband watched Dominics game and I thought he was unlucky in many ways , but Julie won well.
The next 45 minutes went past in a total blur.
I normally do OK if I am watching in the house or at work, but made a balls of it (nobodys fault but mine) - counting a 6 letter word as 7 and misdeclaring and thinking that 7x4=26 as my more obvious. My declaration of 25 in the second numbers game got a laugh at least. I normally work well under pressure, it's a different pressure than I experienced that day.
We stayed on & watched Hamish & Julie play and beat them to the conundrum - easy when there are no cameras pointing at you.
We sneaked out before the winner played Heather and drank the celebratory champers in the hotel before getting slightly pissed in Leeds, the Las Vegas of Yorkshire.
The presenters, staff & crew were really welcoming and friendly & it was great to meet Jeff, Susie, Rachel & Giles.
Jeff is a legend in my local - they even put up a signed photo of him & me next to the television.
Rachel is stunning and every bit as good if not better than Carol at the numbers.
Susie is an absulute cracker & was really friendly & chatty- brains & beauty - my favourite (no offence meant Rachel)
Giles was funny on & off camera and an OK guy (for a tory)
I can't remember all the names but thanks also to Sara, Lara, Helen, Danielle & Damien and everybody else who made us feel so welcome at the studios.
Once again thanks to you all & best wishes when you go to Manchester.
It has also given my mates & the guys at work plenty of ammo to get into my ribs - much as I would do to them. It's all been good natured and complimentary (eventually).
I will be sticking about on the forum for a wee while longer. I might even study hard and apply in another 10 years. I can maybe even do a bit more than simply practice my 75 times table in the car going down the m6.
I really enjoyed being on countdown. It was an experience not many people can say the have had.
I can always say "I was there"
Thanks
Davy

Re: Spoilers for Tuesday 28th April
Not everyone watches it live. In general, spoilers for Wednesday's game go on the "Spoilers for Wednesday's game" thread. The point of "spoilers for Tuesday" is that you can read it knowing that the spoilers on it are for Tuesday. Not Wednesday.

Point taken and post edited to allow anybody who is in isolation with swine flu to watch it on their release.- even if I think you are being a bit pedanticDavid Roe wrote:Not everyone watches it live. Yeah, but the post about Wednesday came on Thursday... unless it's an issue with Wednesday's repeat being after Thursday?

Re: Spoilers for Tuesday 28th April
I watch Countdown on Sky+ every day after work, except for when I'm going out that evening or there's an Arsenal match on or I forget. In such cases, I can end up several days behind, as I am now. Thusly, I end up several days behind on my spoilers threads.
