Quiz Question
I attended a pub quiz last night and one of the questions was 'How many presenters has the TV Show Countdown had?'
My team obviously put four, but what I found interesting was that on the way out I overheard; and subsquently joined in with a conversation another team were having. They were not disputing the answer as they had also put four but one of the team members seemed to think that went Richard Whitely was first in hospital a dozen or so episodes were filmed with a different guest presenter every day much like the 'Have I got news for you?' format. However after Richard died these episdoes were shelved.
My question is: Is the person who suggested this completely or partially correct? If so who were the presentors and what happened to the victorious contestants?
Thanks,
Doug

Re: Quiz Question
Partially. I'm sure someone will be along later with the list of proposed guest hosts but none was filmed.
I'd have answered 5 on the basis that William G Stewart hosted the Richard V Carol match, then screamed blue murder if it was marked as wrong.

If you cut a gandiseeg in half, do you get two gandiseegs or two halves of a gandiseeg?

Re: Quiz Question
TTBOMK they were never recorded, the first one was scheduled to be recorded the day after RW's death.Douglas Wilson wrote:I attended a pub quiz last night and one of the questions was 'How many presenters has the TV Show Countdown had?'

Re: Quiz Question
You can't count them if the shows were never aired.
Who knows how many "Generation Game" presenters there's been? (Bet you miss one out!)

They were never recorded. I think Richard died just as they were about to start recording them though.

I was just wondering to what extent what she said was true.

Re: Quiz Question
The question's pretty much been answered as much as it can be, apparently there were guest-presented episodes scheduled, but they were scrapped before recording.

Richard Digance, Lesley Garrett, Esther Rantzen, Barry Norman, Tim Rice, Nicholas Owen and Jennie Bond. Most of whom ended up recording pieces for the RW tribute programme instead.Douglas Wilson wrote:Cool, does anyone know what presenters were lined up?

They must've left it very late to do the recordings then.Jon O'Neill wrote:They were never recorded. I think Richard died just as they were about to start recording them though.
IIRC Richard died either Sunday evening or Monday morning, and as a result your quarter final was delayed from Monday to Tuesday. In the Radio Times published on that same Tuesday, Richard Digance was listed as the guest presenter of the Countdown programmes for the following week.
If the programmes hadn't been recorded, they'd left at most one week before transmission to do them

Re: Quiz Question
This general topic has come up before ages ago. It was interesting because if there had been any games, they would have been the CofC ones so obviously the results would have been quite big news. But we've been told the games never happened. But if you're into conspiracy theories...Howard Somerset wrote:They must've left it very late to do the recordings then.Jon O'Neill wrote:They were never recorded.
