Re: Claims to Fame
I'm the first person to lose in two finals since Allan Saldanha.
Junaid and DO'D never gave away a single point on the numbers. I'm sure other people can match this but not many of them played more than 13 games.

My mum can beat that as by default she went 5 times in 5 months. Admittedly, it was only to watch me (at least I assume so), although she stayed after my first CoC match just so she could watch that 'adorable young guy'. Shame Kai beat him, reallyMrs Kai wrote:

Also, I was there with Kai at every stage of his run and developed a protective, older brotherly type connection thing so I should win some loyalty points too. Not sure how Kai feels about this.

I can claim 'last person to win on a Saturday' - well, to be more accurate, last person to be shown winning a game on a Saturday afternoon on Channel 4 (in case there have been repeats at some odd time on Saturdays since then). And not even my relations watched it ........

I'm going to try and claim the award for longest wait between passing my audition and getting a recording date (it was approx 1 year) which probably would've been longer if I hadn't phoned up to ask when it was

Well, I was the first ever Octochamp of the 15 round format in 2002, and though I'm not sure about this one, might hold the record for most rounds scored in consecutively (scored in my first 52 rounds)
BTW, I'm going to post up a couple of my heat games when I'm next home in a few weeks to add to the historical recaps section.

I can beat you Joseph.
I passed my audition in November 2002 and didn't appear on the show til May 2004.
I was also the best looking player in living memory (as stated on my wiki page) I'm not certain but of all 3 time winners I probably have the worst pts scored - pts allowed record.
All 3 shows I won were on crucial conundrums.
Had the teatime teaser come up in the round after it
And got a 9 my opponent missed and still managed to lose by 37 points
Oh, and offered Girates and Carots
Tada

I wonder if it's more unique to have a boyfriend...
edit: it occurs to me that 'more unique' sounds a bit silly, but I can't be bothered to look it up, so let's assume I've used it correctly, or if I haven't then I know I haven't but am trusting everyone will know what I mean. Sorted.

My opponents in my first and last shows were an aggregate of 28 years old. This could be a pretty piss-poor record, but I'm clutching at straws.
Or how about a 28-point turnaround to win my first game? I'm sure there's better than that.

According to the Octochamps stats page (which I'm yet to be added to by the way) I had the second lowest number of points available from my eight games. Using the arbitrarily chosen marker of anything under 985 points as being a "low-scoring set of games," I get the title of best player with bad selections.

In my QF Series 53 with Richard Heald, we "halved" all eleven letters rounds. I'm way too lazy to know if this is unique, but it certainly can't have happened that often.

It's worth noting that Paul won round 12 ouright with the stunning TELECOM, whether COMETH was in or not.Gary Male wrote:Not quite. Mark had cometh disallowed in R12, then Paul won R13 outright with the stunning DYSPNOEABen Wilson wrote:
The final of coc 12 was halved up until the final numbers game. Not only that, but maxed as well.

Maybe not in 15 rounds but I think David Ballheimer v Jason Witcher was drawn every round up to the conundrum in their series 42 game which was won 72-62 by David.Martin Bishop wrote:It happened in my first appearance, against Andy Crompton.Ross Allatt wrote:In my QF Series 53 with Richard Heald, we "halved" all eleven letters rounds. I'm way too lazy to know if this is unique, but it certainly can't have happened that often.

Has anyone ever halved every single round up to the conundrum?

Re: Claims to Fame
I'm planning to put this on the wiki at some point, but I think Paul Gallen in that game has the longest run of maximums, at least in only one game. Nobody's ever scored a max game, or had a max game before the conundrum then missed it. Obviously there's quite a few games we don't have recaps for - Julian Fell being the obvious one.
As for Gary, I can come close as I played every type of numbers game - the only one of those I never chose personally was two large, which was chosen by Tracey Murrell in my 8th game. Also in my last game I chose 3 large and 2 small and let Carol choose the last one, as I had always wondered whether Carol would prefer 3 or 4 large, as 3 large is pretty f*cking difficult, if it were me I'd just chose the final large number. Oh she chose 3 large btw.

If you cut a gandiseeg in half, do you get two gandiseegs or two halves of a gandiseeg?

Oh yeah, on my 4 large games I won them 71-7, the 7 points against me coming in my first game, an impossible numbers game so it was actually a max for him in that round.Charlie Reams wrote:I'm the first person to lose in two finals since Allan Saldanha.
Junaid and DO'D never gave away a single point on the numbers. I'm sure other people can match this but not many of them played more than 13 games.
