New Quiz Shows for 2026

Post by Philip A »

Three new quiz shows coming in January 2026:

1st January 2026 - Time Is Money, a daytime quick-fire quiz hosted by ex-Dragons’ Den star Sara Davies in which contestants are given the money but must race to keep hold of it - 6 pm, then 3 pm for the rest from Monday;

4th January 2026 - The Floor, a Dutch format hosted by Rob Bryon. 81 contestants battle it out in head-to-head picture battles on specialist subjects. At the end of the series someone wins £50,000. Sundays 8 pm;

6th January 2026 - Millionaire Hot Seat, a half-hour supercharged version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire which has been a staple hit in Australia since 2009, hosted by Jeremy Clarkson. No lifelines, but they may pass on one question. Tuesdays-Fridays 7:30 pm between the News and Emmerdale.

The 1% Club returns properly on 10th January. 3rd January is a repeat because of the World Darts Final.

Yep, seen bits of the US version and the recent Australian version too. Already gone to dozens of countries and the UK version is identical so no reason why it shouldn’t be a hit here.

Just a shame it’s up against Antiques Roadshow.

Have also seen the original Australian version Millionaire Hot Seat.

Just watched Time is Money and after low expectations it’s not bad. It has drawbacks but I think they could be ironed out if it gets a second series. Sara Davies seems lovely.

All 3 shows aren’t perfect but will hold up better than Jeopardy! and Pictionary in my opinion.

The pilot of Time is money was a genuinely exciting and any quiz where you don't know the winner is from the get go is fine by me

Really liked The Floor - the format means it should only get better as the series develops too.

Time is Money is good as well.

ITV have now produced a few good new game shows in the last year or so.

Agree. I think they have minor drawbacks but hopefully they’ll be ironed out if greenlit for Series 2.

I think Time is Money would work better with just the sound effects, instead of Sara saying, “Too slow,” “Speed up the timers,” “Lose £50” and “Switch the timers” 10 times per episode - like what you get on The Finish Line which has sound effects for correct, incorrect and time’s up rather than stock phrases, and the contestants’ names are called out on the buzzers.

Millionaire Hot Seat admittedly isn’t my favourite version but I think it is watchable when you compare it to the hour-long quiz shows that are often on at times when most people are work (I’m looking at you, Jeopardy!).

The Inner Circle was dreadful.

Sorry to sound picky but on today’s Time Is Money, a contestant’s answer, "Maria” Carey, was accepted. It’s definitely Mariah Carey. I’d say that’s wrong.

Reminds me of a recent controversy on Jeopardy in the USA where they disallowed an answer of "what is Gangster's Paradise" because it should have been "Gangsta's Paradise".

The host from County Durham pronounced "Jodie Comer" as "Geordie Korma" in an earlier episode, so maybe they are giving the contestants a little bit of leeway :P

I remember that too. American quiz shows are very strict on pronunciation.

Anyone thought through the tactics for Millionaire Hot Seat?

If you're player six, what chance have you got? You'll almost cetainly get on, as each of the others either passes or gets one wrong. But if you pass there's a high chance you won't get back. The only way is each of the other five gets one wrong, which means that even if you do get back, and go on to win, you'll only get £10K. Might as well just guess.

There are also nine questions before the £10K one, all for increasing amounts, but the amounts are irrelevant. It's impossible to win any of them because you can't "take the money". And why on earth do people find the need to witter on about their thought processes when they're on a 15 second timer?

It’s too much of a lottery in my opinion. I don’t know why it’s been so successful in Australia. The faster pace is good but it’s basically like In It to Win It.
