Hello and welcome to another quarter final recap

Image

On this day in 1977 American disco drama Saturday Night Fever was released, it's main actor John Travolta was already well known for the sitcom Welcome Back Kotter and his role in the 1976 horror flick Carrie. The film itself made John Travolta a household name and established him as an actor. Two versions of the film were released the R-Rated version that was targeted at an adult audience, the second was a toned down PG version aimed at a teenage audience who weren't old enough to see the R-Rated version. It was a critical and box office success grossing over $237M worldwide making it the 4th highest grossing film of 1977. The soundtrack that was released in 1977 sold over 40 million copies worldwide. Prior to the release of Thriller by Michael Jackson, Saturday Night Fever was the best-selling album in music history, and still ranks among the best-selling soundtrack albums. Fifteen years later the soundtrack to The Bodyguard surpassed Saturday Night Fever as the best selling film soundtrack selling over 45 million copies.
