Round 1: C S M A U E R N I

Helen: MARINES (7)
Keith: MINERS (6)
DC: MANICURES (18)
OT: MUSCARINE (18)
Score: 7–0 (max 18)

What a way to kick off a Monday afternoon and a flying start from DC and our recap writer with their 9 Manicures..........but there was one other 9 with Muscarine........our champion Helen is off to a good start with her 7 Marines

Round 2: C A H L O N U D E

Helen: CANDLE (6)
Keith: CLONED (6)
DC: LAUNCHED (8)
OT: EULACHON (8)
Score: 13–6 (max 26)

Sixes all round from our champion and challenger............over in DC they get to show off their talents with their eight Launched as does our recap writer as well.........there was another eight that I have never heard of........Euchalon

Euchalon : The eulachon, or the candlefish, is a small anadromous species of smelt that spawns in some of the major river systems along the Pacific coast of North America from northern California to Alaska

Round 3: 25, 3, 7, 5, 8, 9. Target: 798.

C1: 800. (7 − 3) × 8 × 25 (7)
C2: 800. (7 − 3) × 8 × 25 (7)
RR: 798. (25 × 5 − (8 + 3)) × 7 (10)
Score: 20–13 (max 36)

A good two away solve from our champion and challenger that bags them both 7 points each...............using the 7 times table can bag you a perfect 10 as Ms Riley shows us how it is done

Image

Teatime teaser: LASHGREG -> HAGGLERS

Round 4: G A S W E K I B P

Helen: wakies
Keith: SPEAK (5)
DC: WASPIE (6)
Score: 20–18 (max 42)

Our champion having her 6 disallowed by Susie, this allows our challlenger take a brief but narrow lead with his 5 Speak........over in DC they get to show off with their six Waspie

Image

Round 5: N D T O A E S R I

Helen: NOTARISED (18)
Keith: STONIER (7)
DC: DERATIONS (18)
OT: ORDINATES (18)
Score: 38–18 (max 60)

And this is how you take the lead by bagging yourself a 9 letter word...........Notarised the old Countdown that was spotted by our champion Helen and yours truly.........the other old favourite is Derations which was the spot from DC............this allows our champion to take a 20 point lead with everything left to play for

Image

Round 6: 100, 50, 9, 9, 5, 2. Target: 614.

C1: 609.
C2: 617. (9 − 5) × (100 + 50 + 2) + 9 (7)
RR: 614. (9 + 2 + 100) × 5 + 50 + 9 (10)
Score: 38–25 (max 70)

Not the easiest of 2Ls our challenger Keith does well to get 1 away and 7 points that puts him within 13 points of our champion..........Ms Riley gets to showcase her number talents and produces a perfect 10

Image

Round 7: V T R A E G H I D

Helen: RIGHTED (7)
Keith: GRATED (6)
DC: TRIAGED (7)
OT: GIRTHED (7) THRIVED (7) VIRGATE (7)
Score: 45–25 (max 77)

Sevens all round.........no extra points for spotting most of those............let's not fight about this and play nicely !

Image

Image

Round 8: L E B S U P I R C

Helen: curlies
Keith: BLUES (5)
DC: REPUBLICS (18)
Score: 45–30 (max 95)

Helen is feeling the blues as Susie disallows her 7..........but Keith is not feeling blue as he scores 5 useful points with his words blue............but Ms Riley and our recap writer get to show off with their 9 Republics

Image

Image

Round 9: 75, 4, 9, 7, 8, 4. Target: 561.

C1: 560. 75 × 8 − (9 × 4 + 4) (7)
C2: -
RR: 561. 75 × 7 + 9 × 4 (10)
Score: 52–30 (max 105)

Our champion Helen can only manage one away and 7 points.........if you tinker about with the numbers that gets you 10 points as Ms Riley shines and shows us you how it is done..........I used different method that involves the 8 times table

Image

75-4=71
71*8=568
568-7=561

Teatime teaser: SEATEETH -> AESTHETE

Round 10: Z A N U T O U P T

Helen: OUTPUT (6)
Keith: unpot
DC: OUTPUT (6)
OT: OPTANT (6) PUTOUT (6) TUPUNA (6)
Score: 58–30 (max 111)

Sixes all round but not for Keith as his 5 is disallowed by Susie..........however there is quite a few of those..........so let's not argue and play nicely

Image

Image

Round 11: L T N E A S D I F

Helen: INFLATED (8)
Keith: FLANS (5)
DC: LANDTIES (8)
OT: DEINSTAL (8) INFLATES (8)
Score: 66–30 (max 119)

Another brilliant round from our champion Helen with her 8 Inflated............a couple of those were spotted by DC but you don't get any extra points for spotting them

Image

Round 12: S E G M O T G E N

Helen: GENOMES (7)
Keith: SEGMENT (7)
DC: GEMSTONE (8)
Score: 73–37 (max 127)

Sevens all round from Helen and Keith............over in DC they get to sparkle with their 8 Gemstone

Image

Image

And here is a beautiful but expensive diamond gemstone ring all in it's glory........I wonder if hubby is generous enough to get his wallet out and write a letter to Santa !

Image

Round 13: S N T O E J S I R

Helen: STORIES (7)
Keith: JOINTERS (8)
DC: JOINTRESS (18)
Score: 73–45 (max 145)

A good round from our champion Keith with his eight Jointers..........over in DC they get to shine with their 9 Jointress as does our recap writer........you guessed it I spotted this one !

Image

Image

Round 14: 50, 4, 10, 6, 3, 7. Target: 214.

C1: 214. 4 × 50 + 10 − 6 + 7 + 3 (10)
C2: 214. (7 − 3) × 50 + 10 + 4 (10)
Score: 83–55 (max 155)

A piece of piss this numbers solve to end the days proceedings.........this bags Helen and Keith 10 points each

Image

Round 15: C I N D Y R E E S

No one buzzes. The answer was RESIDENCY.
Final Score: 83–55 (max 165)

Neither contestant spots the conundrum but it is left to our very own Rachel Riley to pick up the slack.............firstly congratulations to Helen for bagging her third win...........secondly take nothing away from Keith he gave as good as he got with some good spots it wasn't to be but enjoyed the experience overall............you can join me yet again to see if Helen can bag her 4th win............in the meantime it is bye for now
