It would certainly do him good.
It still doesn't sit very well with me as a comment, even if I possibly judged it a bit severely in my half-awake state.

The question on squares of 4 chips from 4*3 chips had a couple of unsuccessful arguments; the answer was 6. Some argued you could make 2 3*3 squares, but that would make 2 squares of 9 chips (8 on the perimeter and 1 in the middle, read the question!). Others argued you could make two squares rotated 45 degrees, but that would also leave a chip in the middle, leaving a + or x of 5 chips. The question clearly stipulated squares of 4 chips.

I think the 1% Club has too many questions where 30 seconds isn't enough time.Philip A wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 9:21 pm The question on squares of 4 chips from 4*3 chips had a couple of unsuccessful arguments; the answer was 6. I disagree. The jackpot winners prove otherwise. It’s good practice to try to solve them all without pausing the TV.Marc Meakin wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2024 7:06 amI think the 1% Club has too many questions where 30 seconds isn't enough time.Philip A wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 9:21 pm The question on squares of 4 chips from 4*3 chips had a couple of unsuccessful arguments; the answer was 6. I get more fun pausing , just like I do at the Countdown conundrum.Philip A wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2024 8:43 amI disagree. The jackpot winners prove otherwise. I usually only pause as the time runs out as I like to try and solve in real time but prefer to solve rather than get told

Last show on 25th May before it breaks up for the summer and autumn, which was recorded in 2022 (as was last week’s). But it will be back at Christmas time. It will feature Yinrun from last year’s Big Brother (ITV 2 version).

Re: The 1% Club
I'm not sure who decides the difficulty level of each question but the question about the smiling or sad faces in last nights recording (, 25th May) were much harder than the next four that followed.
The 1% question was not easy I thought it was some kind of symmetry but run out of time

New episodes on 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th December 2024. These are the remaining episodes of Series 3 which were not originally broadcast as planned.

Who comes up with the order of questions the 90% question was harder , to me , than the 1% question in last night's show (9th December )

Re: The 1% Club
No-one necessarily dictates the order per se.Marc Meakin wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 2:53 pm Who comes up with the order of questions the 90% question was harder , to me , than the 1% question in last night's show (9th December )
The order is decided by the results of the nationwide survey, which is carried out to the public before the show, like Family Fortunes and Pointless.
For example, if 95% of the survey answered a question corretly, that question would be set at the 90% level.
But it’s quite a big survey, unlike the questions on Family Fortunes and Pointless which are only polled to 100 people. The 1% Club survey is polled to thousands.
Because of the nature and scale of the survey, and the way different brains work, it’s inevitable that the next question may appear much easier to some people than the previous question.
I was shocked, but not surprised, that 20% fell at the first hurdle on the 90% question, when you consider that there are 100 people out of a UK population of 70 m, plus the studio lights and cameras. Your brain just doesn’t act as it should when pressure beats you.

1% question was rubbish tonight. It was a wtf, not an aaah.

Yeah I couldn't decide what it was supposed to be.
Spoiler in link below - it looked like a). It should have looked like b). (Artist's interpretation )

Knowing what it's supposed to be, I can just about see it, but to me the centre looked raised not recessed. I guess if you see it you see it, if you don't there's no way you're getting it, and none of them did! It's almost an optical illusion puzzle which doesn't seem in the spirit of the game.

I would doubt even 1% of the population would have got that right.

512.
Actually it was incubate.
Re: The 1% Club
The answer is ‘incubate’. “In-cube eight”.
Basically a dingbat.
I wonder if they would have taken ‘captivate’? “Captive eight”

That would really have pissed me off, especially given that I don't pronouce "eight" the same as I do "-ate".Philip A wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 3:02 pmThe answer is ‘incubate’. “In-cube eight”.

Although that’s it for Series 3, there’s one more special episode on Boxing Day (the festive edition).
Series 4, like the previous series, will consist of 16 episodes, and could start as early as February.
