If you are on a online dating site and the main profile picture has two people in it, the account never belongs to the good looking one.

"Honk if you like X" bumper stickers are not supposed to illicit fans of X to honk. It's a private joke for the driver that if they make someone mad enough to honk at them they can console themselves that the person isn't mad at them but just really likes X.

It did make me think of the car stickers I often saw when young which said "Follow Me to LEEDS RLFC", which just made me think "why are you going there, there's no match until a week on Sunday?".

Car stickers can be misleading I was once cut up by a bloke with a honk if you love Jesus sticker and a fish symbol (mean to symbolise religiousness)
He got out the car and through several punches at me and was swearing profusely.
When I said to him he wasn't being very Christian he pointed out that he'd only bought the car the previous day
End of anecdote

There are some people who, when they hear an asteroid wiped out the dinosaurs, think that the asteroid actually hit all the dinosaurs.
I'm really hoping this is followed up with a post that says, the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs didn't actually hit all of the dinosaurs.

The mammals etc. all just happened to be standing in exactly the right place to avoid the asteroid, whereas the dinosaurs were all right under it. Maybe one for the coincidences thread.

Everyone at the (Last Night of the) Proms is white. Performers, audience, everyone. Watched about half an hour and must have seen 400 different faces, maybe 6 weren't white*. Ironically the conductor was talking about diversity and inclusion.
*I know that 394/400 is not equivalent to "everyone", but a slight exaggeration seemed to make a stronger point here.

Terrible. But I'm not sure it can completely follow inflation because over time everything would have shrunk away to basically nothing. Inflation is an ongoing process. Using this calculator, stuff is over three times the price from 40 years ago, so crisp packets and chocolate bars should be about a third of the size.Marc Meakin wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 6:06 pm All crisps and confectionary are suffering from shrinkation, the price may stay the same but what's inside the packaging is getting smaller year on year.
Re: REALLY obvious things you've just realised
It's up and down. Mars bars suddenly got bigger, then got smaller again.
According to google "In the 1980s, a standard Mars bar weighed 49g, increased to 65g in the 1990s and dropped to 51g today."
Of course there's the sugar tax too now...

This would only be the case if the price had stayed the same over the 40 years. It hasn't - they've got both smaller _and_ more expensive.Gavin Chipper wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 9:06 pmTerrible. A friend of mine learned sign language and he was talking to a deaf guy and the deaf guy let a fart and my friend signed "that was loud". And that was the first time the deaf guy realised that farts make noise. So he just realised that and I just realised that deaf people wouldn't know that farts make noise. A nice double whammy.

I'm not sure this is that obvious, but "swing" in elections doesn't mean what I thought it did. If a constituency goes from e.g. 40% Tory and 20% Labour to the opposite, I always thought that was a swing of 40%, but actually it's not that.
Edit - It seems the swing is half what I thought it was, but I think my meaning is a more intuitive use of the word.

2) "Match of the Day" is (likely) a play on words based on "Catch of the Day".
