8 Billion people and counting.

Post by Marc Meakin »

Today the 8th Billionth person was born.
The population is due to peak at 10 Billion around 2084 then steadily decline due to a combination of food shortages and infertility.
Edit : I need a proof reaper

I remember it being 2 billion when I was a youngster.

I do like the idea of not enough feet to go around. We could call it footfall.

Just done the calculations and apparently there's only about 130 million feet (or 40,000km) to go round the Earth (circumference), so frankly it's amazing that the population ever exceeded 70 million (on an assumed average of 1.9 feet per person).

I think they just picked a day for the 8 billionth person. I wouldn't vouch for its accuracy. Plus it's not really the 8 billionth person; it would be the person who brings the total of living people to 8 billion, and that could be more than one person anyway. See this thread.

I did think it was only an estimation at best.
It could easily be a lot more already

They said themselves that it's an estimate, give or take a couple of years.
